"Let's Face it, the MPC 2000xl is a toy"??????wtf????

yo, I came across this quote the other day......

"Let's Face it, the MPC 2000xl is a toy compared to the 3000 or 4000"

now, I know a lot of people that have big willy studios and big producers who have the $$$ usually use the MPC 3000le Roger Linn......but why is a 2000xl considered to be a "toy". I know there are differences with the specs and sh*t, but still....both have relative structures/uses to them.....right?

Also, what is so limited about the 2000xl thats on the 3000 that makes it so so much better(besides 4 midi outs)....I know a lot of people say it has a diff. feel to it.....what is that feel???

I'm just wondering because I honestly feel that some of the stuff I come up with sampling on my 2000xl is just as good as something that producers that use the 3000 have made. Also, I am wondering if I should put down the 2000xl and save up for the 3000le (not the 4000 yet until I hear nothing about bugs).

P.S. I want lots of replies to this one as the topic is very debatable....plus it woudl give a lot of others insight on what to buy/use....thanks

Never used an MPC3000 but if they were the same price i'd get a 2kxl. I like waveform visual and WAV files.

sorry to put people under the impression that I am in the market of buying a 3000 or 2kxl....i already have a 2kxl studio plus......I was just upset to see that people think its a "toy" and not something serious.....I mean, I did spend serious enough money for mine....I just wanted to hear why people woudl call it a toy....in my eyes....its not the sampler....but the person behind the sampler.....

and yeah...i agree....i love the waveform editing and the fact that it can play .wav files...makes sampling a lot easier and more controllable for me....1

it's important what works for you. Don't listen to anybody slagging off your gear, cos most of the time those people have got no clue what they're talking about. I personally don't give a damn about whether the 3000 has got a better groove or Macs are better than PCs. Be creative with what you've got and make your gear work for you.

If your track is banging, nobody will say: "Hang on a minute, the track is dope but he did it on a set of toys!!!"

I have been working in studios all my life and you would not believe how many idiots I have come accross.... Just do your thing. You will find out who's opinions you should value and who's you should ignore.

Though equipment is COMPLETELY relative to the user. Look at 9th Wonder... he's slated to be the next primo (how many times have we heard that....) and he's uses strictly Fruity Loops. Look at RZA... ASR 10 from 36 Chambers to WuTang forever....

dog, people who say things like that are usually (not always but usually) never gotten experience on the 2KXL OR the 3K, they are just parroting back what they have heard (we've all told that Richard Gere story at least one time).

THe 2kXL is more then enough machine to do any song. Beleive in yourself not some piece of gear. I have heard tracks made with reason that BANG.

Yeah..to each his own...let the 3000 fans sing it's praises all they want...just keep on pumpin out the beats, finding dope samples and having fun with your "toy". If you could make a dope beat by bangin pots and pans together no one's gonna ask if they were Lagostina pans or some TEFAL teflons. Oh and BTW...other dude was right about ninth wonder...that dudes got me wondering how the fu(k he made those joints with FruityLoops...maybe i'll sell my mpc and gets me a PC upgrade...I'd miss those pads tho....BLAH

You should ask this same question in the MPC3000 forum and see what kind of responses you get then.

Actually, I've always thought of all the MPCs are really big Texas Instruments calculators. Now all we need Akai to do is come out with a MPC4000 with the little ribbon printout roll.

I havent used the 3000 or 4000, but my 2kxl is the bestist toy this latch key kid has ever put his hands on.

I gotta say there is something special about the mpc60 though. It just bangs to hard. I still want one.
