my bro currently owns a bog standard mpc. it has 2mb, zip drive and thats it

no extra simms, no 8 outs,flash rom or effects

since it was once mine i hate to see it in this sorry state and feel i owe it for all the joy it brought me

i was wandering whats the best way to get the mpc supercharged

is there any way i can upgrade it with a card reader like the new models?

If I were you I would get the RAM up to 32mb first - very cheap upgrade - you can get memory from a number of different sources such as ebay or possibly your local computer shop if they stock older style ram. CHeck akaipro.com for exact specs of ram required.

Then I would get a card reader - search this forum for lots of info on that as well as the card reader FAQ - at midicase.com

and get 8 outs if you can find them!
