PURGING UR FILES

Ok, this might be a stupid question it might not.....I made a beat this past weekend and in my procedures of making the beat, I usually load the mpc till its maxed out wit drum sounds (for the obvious pleasure of layering and finding the appropriate drums for the beat)...my question is this...In terms of the purge function, I was looking to purge the sounds that weren't used in the beat i made, but when I purged once, I assume that some sounds were removed, but not all of them were purged, and I had to manually delete the sounds in order to do what this function is supposed to do...I noticed that after purging once, it wouldn't allow me to purge again and it said there were no more files to purge....I wanted to purge the files for future ref. when i need to laod something up quickly....cna someone drop a lil knowledge on me...cause trust I've read that manual front to back and have owned my mpc for like 4yrs now....

the PURGE function deletes all files that aren't assigned to pads so to get rid of all the sounds you're not using you would have to unassign them first then use purge

Not quite....Just to be clear, purge function will remove sounds/samples that are not part of a program.

You'l either have to delete to pgm file then purge or delete the files u dont want which actually belong to programs (Manually)

BRAVO's correct, I assumed dude wouldnt want to delete any programs though, it's be easier to just unassign the samples he's not usin, purge em and resave the program

Or better still, do all that deleting stuff then save as APS and name it the title of the track u made. This way, your original pgms will remain intact etc (As long as u keep sounds and pgms/APS in the same location, you'l be good - No need to replace same sounds either)

I very rarely save pgm's.
