memory and midi advice anyone??

howdy, I just got an MPC 2000xl the other day (2nd hand) and i am working my way around it. it has 2meg of internal memory, and when i got a few small samples up (e.g kick, snare, hat, piano) i run out of room to sample more, even after i save them to the zip (it has a built it zip drive) can the MPC run samples off the zip, or does it have to load to them into the internal memory to play them back?, and in this case do i need to get the memory expanded? Just to make this more complicated I will put another solution to you: I have a Roland VS1824 hard disc digital recorder, and i was thinking of sending the samples from the mpc to the hard drive of the roland via scsi, and running them on the MPC via midi.. is this a good idea, and if so any tips on how to go about it? please give me some advice here

You'll need to expand the memory, you cannot run samples directly from disk.

I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve with the Roland - can you explain it in more detail? Are you trying to use your Roland hard drive as storage space for the MPC samples? If so, this will not work - the Roland is a hard disk recorder designed to record audio, not data files.

did you trim the samples?

yeha i trimmed the samlples, and i had another play last night and realised i was recording in stereo.. so now with mono i got more room for samples..
with the 18 tracker i was qwondering if i could store all the wav files in that instead of on the MPC and play them with midi, but i dont know much about midi, so im not sure if it is possible.. btw sorry about sending that to your email, im a newcomer to the site and didt find the forum bit untill after i did that

No, you wont be able to store your sound files in the Roland. You can record the audio coming out of your MPC outs into it, but that's it.

Just go ahead and expand your memory its not very expensive..and its a simple installation (check the manual). Good quality memory for samplers can be found at www.crucial.com.

did you delete the trimmed off sections?
