Where do you guys get your bass sounds from?

I'm not talking about kicks or bassdrums, i have plenty of those.
Anyone know how Pete Rock puts his basslines together or J Dilla (I'm assuming Dilla uses a keyboard setup, you can hear it in his new stuff), but where can you find some good acoustic, soul, electric bass samples that sit nice under the kicks without losing any flavor?

a synth/sound module?

Getting a MicroKorg is a good idea, especially for basslines. Plus, you get all those other synthy sounds.

Multisampling is a good idea too.

Hmm i'll check into both of those...
what I was really curious about was if you guys draw the sampling line at drums or if you'll go into the crates for bass too...

maybe I should look into getting a sound module

i love kanye's bass as of late, does he use an asr-10?

i make my own, i will sample low tones like rubber bands etc.. EQ them set sustain points and bam u got a banging bass sound. Almost all my bass is made by me....

I hate the way that sounds...I'll do it here and there but set it to another pad on 'note off' so that i can just make it come in at certain times. IMO beats with the sample filtered with no freq as the low end sound unprofessional. Beatminerz hooked it up back in the day but...still doesn't sound that great.

Try sampling one shot samples, like one bass guitar pluck or a piano note..... but sample it with the bass turned up, then filter it down and you got a bass note. 16 levels it, and set the 16 levels to control tuning and viola!

You know those 808 bass sounds? These are good for bass lines. You filter them and then you get a real clean bass sound. Then raise or lower pitches to make it match your sample...

i get mine from Fruity Loop presets.

It would take you a while to find a bassline that would match the beat you have already made. If I sample a bassline, I choose the rest of my samples based on that bassline. It's much easier to get a sound module such as the MicroKorg.
