opening up lcd screen

i posted about my dim backlight a few months ago. i finally ordered the part, but the site that i bought it from doesnt supply instructions on how to replace it.
If anyone knows how to get to the lcd screen to open , i would appreciate it greatly. i tried opening the case from the front and the back. i think u might need a snake screwdriver to get the 4 screws on the back of the lcd flip screen open. If the mpc tutor wants, if i get the instructions, ill even take flicks and write up some instructions for other people in the future.. Aighht?? thanks

ask MPC 3000, I haven't found ne1 on here who knows as much about MPC spec's and repair. He would know for sure, since he has the service manuals, (I've seen him refer to it many times in posts)

I did this procedure last week on my MPC2kxl......after ordering the screen from akai(and at first receiving the 2000 lcd...so i had to send it back)...anyways...i ended up saving about $180 in labor charges.


Open the case....
open the bottom casing also....
unscrew both sides of the lcd casing(basically the screws that hold it in place to let it flip up and down)...
unscrew the 4 screws on the back of the lcd casing....
there will be a ribbon cable and two wires coming out of the lcd itself.....
follow the cable and wires to the backside of the mpc(which shoudl already be open)....
to unplug the two wires, you'll have to undo the 4 screws aroudn the power supply board(not the AC plug itself)....
under the power supply board, you unplug the wires, then unplug the ribbon cable(which is under a metal piece of casing).....

once the old lcd is out youhave to put in the new one....
place it in the lcd casing and put it all in proper place(without screwing it)...
plug the two wires back (underneath the power supply board)...
NOW THE TRICKY PART.....for the ribbon cable, you must bend the end of it at a right angle to plug it back in(take notice to exactly how the old one is bent and which way the metal end is facing)....
test the lcd real quick(as long as there is no static, it will not do any damage)...
screw everythign back into place....
SAVE $200.....hahahha

this sounds confusing, but once you look at it....its pretty simple....just make sure you have a set of small screwdrivers and maybe some needle nose pliers....HOPE ALL THIS HELPS

I ALSO SOLDERED IN MY VARIATION SLIDER IF ANYONE NEEDS HELP WITH IT.....

dang solid dog. I wish I knew more about electrical engineering> I flipped thru this book at radio shack that was basically how to electical engineer stuff, it looked pretty informative. It was like 10 bux, so I think Ima cop it.

good looking out man. im gonna try it. but from what i hear.. the lcd is different from the backlight... if your screen is dim, then its the backlight.. if the characters are messed up, its the lcd.. THe backlight just looks like a piece of laminated paper.. one side is pink and the other is black.. is this what you had???

its like the same procedure....

only thing is....with the actual lcd screen, you still gotta pop the lcd board out.

to do this.....

you gotta bend back the 5 metal clips in back(you'll see what i mean)...
then push out the board.....
itll almost come apart into 3 parts...
replace the backlight....
YOU'RE DONE...YAYYYYYYYYYY

actually you dont even have to pull out the lcd but i recommend it so you dont pull on anything and limit your workspace area....itll take more labor...but its worht it....
another tip.....BE DETAILED AND CAREFUL ABOUT PLACEMENT....like when you put it all back together....have it down to a tee and analyze before you take it out...any mistake can be costly.....

raj, thanks for your help man.. but i still cant that shit open . i hate to be annoying.. but the screws on the sides of the flip screen dont unscrew.. u can unscrew it forever, it doesnt come out. the most it unscrews is 1 mm.. its really wierd.. any advice?? thanks again

the ones on the flip screen casing....or the 4 tiny ass screws inside the casing that are on the lcd board?

Either way....you'll find the screwdrivers at radio shack....if you take out the lcd ribbon cable and plug...then you can j;ust bring it into radio shack and hit the guy off with $2....hahah

doggy.....i got to those with an old ass philips screwdriver...im sure you can wiggle your way in there.....my screwdriver was big too...not one of the smaller ones....just keep at it...
