Internal Media Drives:So What's The Answer

I've researched all of the previous threads and their still doesn't seem to be a clear cut answer to which media drive is best.

The floppy drives came stock on the samplers. They are great for sampler os management, but dirt poor for loading and carrying high quality sounds. You can't carry Wav files on a floppy disc.

Zip disks can carry more high quality samples and can support Wav type files. There has been documented problems with zip drives on os updates and other sampler management problems. Boot up time is also an issue.

Card readers are suppose to be faster and eliminate all of the other drives problems. Having an older 2000xl model and running a card drive seems to create more headaches than needed, compounded by the fact it's already hard enough to find the correct media card(there are so many makers of Compact Flash media cards)and they don't have samples available on media cards(yet. Not many computers still have the 6 in 1 media card reader. Compaq did away with it after the idea floped on the Presario computers they put them on.)

So what should I do? Should I

A. Reinstall the old floppy drive and go with a external SCSI drive

B. Install an ATAPI Zip drive and except the 2 minute sample load time.

C. Save my money until I can afford a new AKAI sampler.

D. Avoid AKAI all together

E. Call Geico

Damn dude, you don't sound very optimistic about this media thing... well apart from suggesting for you to use the search button !!! Compact flash is the future ...get a PC ...buy an external Compact Flash reader for the PC and your good to go. I don't wana chat too much about Compact Flash etc etc ...cos its been covered extensively on this site, just search!

I got the old gray/off white MPC2KXL also. I went from the floppy (Krap) to Zip100 (Good) to the Zip 250 (Better) to the Microtec SCSI card reader (Bestest ).
Go with the card reader son doobie. Phuck gettin another MPC.
Like home boy said... get compact flash cards... they go up to 2 gigs.

What do you mean samples are not available on compact flash cards?? You are meant to save them on ! You are misinformed about the whole 'media' issue I would say. My addonics drive can use at least 9 different types of media and also every laptop in the entire world can take them all as long as you have a decent pcmcia adapter. And a usb adapter cost a few dollars.

Soon every sampler will use some type of compact flash, sd card or memory stick. Might as well get with the times.

Well the sampler is just purchased has the wrong internal Zip drive installed into it(IDE drive) so I have to replace that and the guy I got it from is sending me an external SCSI CD-ROM drive on top of that. Getting a card reader wasn't apart of the plan. I have to make a few minor repairs and purchase headphones, cables and back-up media disks. I don't have the extra money. Well I guess I gotta stay in the stone age until I can afford 2 new drives(one for the sampler and one for the computer).
