mpc 2000 vs roland sp-606

hey,
Im about to purchase a new sampler and i was just wondering, what is it that makes the mpc2000 so much better than say the sp-606. can the mpc do functions the sp-606 cant?or is it just the quality?any help you guys could give me would greatly be appreciated.im currently stuck between buying a sp-606 for $260 or a mpc2000 for $750.Thanks

$260 is a steal. For that price you could buy the SP-606, try it out for a few months, and sell it for more than you paid for it. You'll gain experience too. It's good to learn products from a few vendors instead of just one.

have you even used a 606 or are you just judging by a video you saw on the roland site.......

how much money do you have to spend on gear. what type of tracks do you plan on making?

the sp 606 has realtime effects/ resampling but its only 8voice polyphony has only L/R analog outs, digi in out. just to sample something into it was annoying because there are like 9 steps or more just to start sampling. With the mpc you hit shift sample then hit f6 record much simpler and more convienent. the 606 was dope to play with but im used to my mpc. its probably just a matter of getting used to the screens and getting faster

I would get the mpc 2000xl not the classic. start learning how to use that then eventually later you can add a smart card, then add a sp303 and use its realtimeeffects in combo with the mpc. if you buy something cheap you'll want to upgrade later

if you plan on making alot of drum&bass/house/techno, or using a computer the sp606 effects/usb etc might help you there. if you want to make hip hop the mpc would suit you better.

For real...I was researching that 606...it looked dope to me...

any of the roland SP series samplers are great. I uses to have the 202 (the first one) and I kinda like that more than the 303. It had the built in mic and internal sampler so you can walk around and sample any sound from anywhere. the 303 is nice too, but I think the new 606 is the best deal ever. It is basically a 202 and a 303 in one box with more pads. My main issue with the SP boxes is that you can't take advantage of the memory. Example, if you have a 30 meg card installed, and you put 32 sounds into the machine.. lets say hi hats.. something small, the machine will say that the memory is full. Not because the memory os really full, but because it can only hold so many samples in memory. You could have 29 megs free, but it will still say the memory of full. I really like these boxes, and I'd love to be able to put my drum sample library onto them, but it won't let you do it. The 606 can handle a 1gb card, but will only let hold 96 samples, no matter how small they are.
