SAVING YOUR MIXES......

Ladies & Gentleman, I've searched the forums and didn't satisfy my question...so heres my question.... Ok, Last night I put this hot a$$ beat together(hip-hop/rap $hit).. I chopped up the sample, I got it to loop right, and then I went thru my process of loading drum kits to find the most suitable drums for this loop.When I found the right drums, I went into the efx processor (eb16 card) and put a lil reverb on my drums...I went into the mixer and I leveled everything the way I wanted... Here goes my question. When I was done for the night I save the .aps (all programs) , I save .all (all sequences) ....I go to load it the next day and I noticed that none of the reverb efx I used on my drums stayed.
Q#1- What Do I need to do in order for my efx settings to stay so that the next time i load its like how i last left it?
It highly upset me cause I did so much tweaking, to be dissapointed this morning with loading my drums and for them to sound plain as hell
Another Problem I had was when I went to save (.aps ) all programs ...I only wanted to save all the programs that were used to make this beat, but apparently it saved every drum kit I loaded into the mpc.
Heres my procedure: someone tell me if theres an easier method. To save space (since i save to zip disk) I'll have drum kits that when I load up they normally take up like 3 pad banks (a,b,c,), but I don't end up using every sound on the drum kit...So what I do, for example with the beat I made last night...what I do is remove the unused sounds from each kit...so I go into "shift + programs" and remove sounds off any unused pads ($hit thinkin to myself it'd be easier if I just create a blank program and assign all the sounds I used on one drum kit....silly me.,.,) ...Now the problem is this
Q#2- How can I Purge the unused sounds instead of having to do the painstakin process that I normally do?
It's so annoying to have to go into each program and remove the unwanted sounds, even from Drum kits that weren't used.
I looked in the manual under the section that discuessed purge, but it wasn't too helpful....

Last but not least, for those who have an efx card installed in there mpc2xl

When ur in the screen for the efx settings..I know theres "MFX 1" & "MFX2" & then Reverb 1 & Reverb 2..... The other day I put a little reverb on a kick using "mfx1"...after that I wanted to put reverb on a snare and tweak a hi-hat out, but I noticed I was limited to only being able to tweak the snare on mfx2, and then after that the hi-hat either had to be the same as "mfx1" or "mfx2" or else I'm a$$ed out...that wasn't cool. If theres someone out there knowledgeable of this out there, Please help me..I'm always looking to expand my knowledge on proper editing and things of that nature.... Thanks to whoever reads this and gives supportive/positive feed back

I don't have the fx option, but maybe by assigning the same sample to another pad? It's what I do to have a snare with and without filtering (I know it can be done with the slider as well, but i find it more natural to play)

Thanks fr your help, but about the purging thats exactly what I did, but it doesn't remove the other loaded kits I have on the mpc that aren't in use...
I read the purge directions right out the manual, it wasn't that effective for me man...but thanks for your advice, I need a more in detail explanation..perhaps someone very knowledgeable of the $hit i'm goin thru

Didn't figure you were talking about samples assigned to pads nut not played in the sequences, sorry.

I don't think there's any other way than the tedious way you're using now...

I don't know if this is your problem, but the Purge function will only remove sounds from the memory when the sounds are not assigned to any programs. So that means going into the PROGRAM edit screen and turning all the unwanted sounds off before you purge (just hit the pad and then highlight the Snd: field and turn the scroll wheen far left until OFF is displayed).

I've never actually put this into practice(!), so let me know if it works. Otherwise I'll be trying tonight and will let you know. But I've been meaning to try as its actually a good feature. It would be especially useful for me and my method of starting a new track.

Edit: After posting in this thread I soon realised purging was THE answer to my question.

Purge ONLY deletes sounds from the 2kxl memory when they are NOT being used in a program, they can still be on pads even if you don't use them in a song, purge will not touch them if they are STILL on a pad.

Q#3- Is there a way to tweak more than 2 sounds with out ruining the way the previous one sounds? PG138 xl manual may help, check the "editing effects" section. I had this same problem when I FIRST got my 2kxl w/eb16, once I read and understoodand followed this, I was good to go.

in regards to purging, I have pressed the purge button, but even the drum kits I have that aren't assigned to D1-D4 I found are still there after I purge the files. So I'm thinkin I must be doing something wrong or something...I think the feature sounds great, according to what it says it can do, but unfortunately I don't think I'm reapin the benefits properly, cause It ain't working for me that well =(

.........thres much more understanding to this machine...although I must say I have read that manual 3x front to back, and there are still features in there that I've never really tried out, cause either they're too confusing or I have my own approach....whatevr!!

The latter is a good thing! I'm gonna try the purge and report back.

Yea I'm on it too.,,.,I've came to grips that in order for my efx settings to stay I have t have "Stereo Source " on either "program" or "drum" and individual source on "drum " or "program" and have the "cpy mix to drum" on "yes" ,.,.,.I must've been doin something wtong, or I must've had one of these options wrong , but I've got my efx to save!!! Success!!! although I had to trial an error this $hit...

Now I just gotta get the concept of Purging down to a T

Get a harddrive or flash card reader, that way loading will be 5 times faster and you can keep your vast programs

what do ou do when u purge then? cause when i have all these other unused drum kits, even though they're not assigned to any of the drum programs, they are still on the mpc after I purge,.,.,.so let me know what youi did to purge, cause it didn't seem to work all that great for me buddy,.,.

You have to do that to ANY sound that you want deleted from the mpc's memory.

If you've already tried purging with sounds that aren't assigned to any pads, I'm not sure why it wouldn't delete them. My advice is try again and be certain what is what, and it should work.
