I bought a 2000xl and the top, by the f buttons, was raised a bit. It made it a little annoying to press those buttons. Everything fuctions fine but that annoyed me big time. So here's the fix. On the back of the MPC, above where the 8 outs are, in the dead center there is a screw that secures the top. You need to remove that and all of the screws that hold the top in place. Once you have access to the hole I first spoke of, take pliers and grab that loop. Bend it inwards slightly. Now when you replace the faceplate, it will lay flat. I wasn't able to get the screw into the bent loop, but it is still secure without it. I know this is the worst do it yourself directions but hopefully it helps somebody out. Any questions reply to this. Oh and this aint in TFM.

Do you have a raised faceplate? When mine was raised, a few buttons were below the surface making them more than annoying to press. They were almost unable to be depressed. It's not shady in the least. All you are doing is bending a mount ever so slightly. But hey, if you don't mind your raised face, by all means, leave it be.
