Saving... Yes I have read the manual

Hey I just bought my MPC 2000 yesterday and have read the manual from front to back and have even searched these forums.

I spent all this morning on MPC Editor creating tons of discs with drums and basses off my hard drive. Then I spent all afternoon making tracks and losing them. I have tried saving .ALL and .APS but when I turn my MPC off and then back on the disc still appears to be blank when I try and load off it...Why?

I really dont understand were I'm going wrong... if anybody could help I'd really appreciate it...

For the record: I have a bog standard MPC 2000 with just a floppy drive.

ALL basically saves the seq, songs.
APS save the program settings ans mixer settings.

You never mentioned saving your actual SAMPLES. haha

You need to save samples also.

Save ALL OF THIS STUFF to a folder named for
the song you are making.

Do this with each different song in a seperate folder, each
with aps, all and samples all together in the folder.

See this is the problem I'm having...

I just made another beat... a simple beat were I used a kick, snare, hat and crash off one of my discs. Also I sampled a loop and a bass lick. Made 4 quick sequences then tried to save and nothing happened. I clicked save ALL save APS I even saved EVERY sound individually. But it still says the disc is empty when I put it back in the MPC.....

Any ideas?

Do it. Sound or Waves it doesn't matter.

No need to manually save all the sound individually.
Pg 158 does that automatically.

Make sure EVERYTHING is in the SAME folder on your disk.

I dont know which book your quoting there but in my manual;

Pg 157 is the MIDI Clock

and

Pg 158 is the OTHER screen.

I did tell you I have the original MPC 2000?

I have been trying all morning again... my MPC will not save!

Any other ideas I could try?

For future reference if anybody else has this problem, it was a dumb mistake by me. I was just pressing 'F2' SAVE instead of pressing 'F6' DO IT.

My only problem now is.. I have loaded that many discs into my memory it wont all fit on one disc. I dont want to use several discs... is there anyway I can go thru and delete individual sounds I'm not using in my track out of the MPC memory?

I was quoting the 2kxl manual. The save/load works the same on both machines except 2k cannot do the folders thingy and OS version 1.70 and up can save as WAV but that's a different story.

I also have your 2k manual on my desktop here, I'll refer to that then.

Also OS v1.70 and up has an added PURGE function
which deletes unused sounds in memory, meaning that if the sound is NOT assigned to a pd then it be PURGED/erased from memory.

What version OS do you have. If v1.70 above then:

Anyway, you need to look at pg 96 2k manual.
1. UNASSIGN whatever sounds on pads you are not using.
2. checkout pg 2 2k v1.7 addendum to see how the purge works.
3. after purging save your stuff, ALL, APS, SAMPLES. If they still don't fit the you need to save the ALL and APS on the same disk and then finish filling up that disk with samples, change to another fresh disk ans save the rest of the samples via APS. You can delete the APS from the second/third disk when you finished. You only need the APS ALL on the first disk, all the other disks will have samples.

I can't even remember if the 2k can span disks when saving?
Any 2k head out there know this one?

If you don't have the latest OS I suggest you update.

yeah i think you can span disks when saving on the 2k because my boys 2k only had floppy, and he had some beats that were like 10 disks. i think you just have to load them in the same order, but i flowers with zip, so im not positive. but yo, you should get a zip drive fam
