What kind of Zip to get?

Hi,

I just bought an MPC 2000XLm and I'd like your opinions on what kind of Zip drive to get, 100, 250, IDE or SCSI?

The idea of an internal IDE sounds attractive, but is it too slow to be usable?

250 SCSI is your best bet.

Just don't be tempted to buy a 750, cuz the MPC can't recognize it.

Obviously the 250 has more memory than the 100, so that's the end of that part of the discussion and the SCSI is MUCH easier to 'install' than the IDE, plus you can remove it (TURN OFF YOUR MPC FIRST!!!!) and use it on a PC as well.

Nah, funk that mane. cop yourself an internal drive mane and make sure its a 100 cause
1. If you did any checking up on here, you'd know that some folks have problems with the 250 than the 100 when it comes to the internal(and sometimes external)

2. If you wanna get your collab on withanother mpc cat, chances are he has the 100mb zip and those 250 joints arent backwards compatible.

3. Constant plugging and unplugging will mess up your scsi port on the mpc pretty fast, mane. And they are a fat **** to get repaired. Your best bet would be a cheap parallel port or internal 250 for the pc and an internal one for the mpc.

and I may have taken a previous poster comment out of context but memory has nothing to do with the zip drive, mane. Just save some lettuce and cop a internal 100 or 250.

I would agree to get the internal. I have the internal and the scsi and it just seems so much more convenient to have the internal, especially if you take it with you a lot. I have the 250 internal and i haven't had any problems with it yet,(Knock on wood) but i mainly use the 100 mb disk cause i have a lot of them. those disk will work in either all of the zips. The scsi is the 100 and it worked great too, but now i use my scsi drive with my asr . And its not that hard to put the ide drive in just check out www.mpc2000xl.com and it tells you how. peace

I'd get both if you can afford to. I move my MPC around alot so I have to unplug my CD ROM DRIVE and UNPLUG MY JAZ DRIVE and the thing started actig up, so I installed a 250mb zip into my MPC. Ifollowed the tutorial and had no problems .......

I got MPC2kxl with internal IDE 250MB zip. Yes, it is backwards compatible ONLY if u use 100mb disk in your 250 drive. 250 can read all disks below it, ie. 100mb. Some zip disk are very finicky and will not read/write on both PC and MPC with the same disk. IOMEGA zip disks gave me alot of problems. If I were u I would use Fuji 100mb, they've never given me format problems and they are backwards compatible in case you ever run into someone with the 100mb drive.

i agree totally with havin' the Internal ZIP SCSI... i just bought the Internal SCSI ZIP 100 for my MPC2000xl...i should have done this when i first copped it...i got to take the floppy out and install it...man, tell me that's possible...i know what you mean about the SCSI actin' up due to constant pluggin' in and out...i think that's what happen to mine...it just froze up all of a sudden...man, dat aint cool...when you got most of your stuff on ZIP...so i hope installin' this will be a convient for me, like i know it will...thanks for sharin' that info Swissmaster and Plat-1
