Panning in the mixer

Hey I wanted to know how everybody panns their drums and instruments.

Search. Also its preferences. Most center drums pan hit hats, claps, ect... U gotta jus try it.

Yeah, what skechy said. I usually keep kick and snares to the centre and pan other percussion as I like.

In general practice people pan just as if they were in the Dummer chair.

My take on it is that imagine if you were sitting in a drummers chair.
and drums were all around you, that's how you would pan. Whereever you ahve your kick, that's where you would pan it, and so on with the other drums. I don't think anyone would have to know about drumming just to imagine where they wanna place there drums around them, hence pan them. My take on it as I said.

its simple guys just pan your hit hats

On the normal:
My kicks are mono, centered.
Snares are mono, centered.
Closed Hats, mono, centered.
Crashes, stereo, chorused, centered.

All others are normally whatever I feel that day.


On days when I wanna be WAY different:
That's my business and I ain't sharing and u can't make me share.

Yeah, except for realism, you want it to sound like you are in the audience (take the listener's point of view), and so the drum kit would be facing you. As such, since the snare is on the drummer's left, when he is facing you, it would be on the right, and you would hear it coming from slightly RIGHT of the kick drum (which is dead center in a drum kit, no matter if you are the drummer or the audience).
