Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

This has happened about a total of 10 times over the last year 1/2 or so. Working on my stuff when suddenly the screen freezes, and a high pitched screeching sound starts and gets louder and louder, I can't exit and none of my functions/buttons work, I can only turn off the power. The sound is horrible too, freaks me out every time.

Any one know what the problem may be? Happen to anyone else before?

I noticed when it happened last night I was in my mixer screen, and if memory serves me right, I think most crashes happened in this screen, but it could be coincidence. Maybe I am overheating? I am definately way "deep into it" when this happens, multi tasking and what not...

This sucks cause it makes me wonder if my mpc will eventually roll over and die.

Mines done the same thing since I bought it 3 years ago, though I gotta say since I've installed the internal zip drive it hasnt done it...dont know if that was the cure or not but I'm just replying to let you know that I feel your pain...

Hahahaha, thanks. I spoke with someone else last night and they suggested the same thing, but what exactly does an internal zip-drive do? Will it give my mpc more memory? If it does, can I skip getting a memory card or 2 since I never bought them? Any other benefits? And does this work in the 2000 (non-xl)?

Thanks!

If you in doubt, think about this...no more floppys, closest thing to instant recall of all the shit your writting. saves all fast. best buy i've made...only thing i miss is all the shit I had on floppy, gotta find a way to resample it or find another mpc to getit back to my machine. otherwise **** the floppys. check out speeklyf.com to see what I've accoplished(or however you spell it). Mostly Mpc, some samples and triton. hit me back. Im puttin auburn hills mi on the map, I could throw a rock and hit one of the detroit pistons from this place...hahahahahahaaha....for real though

for more memory you need another memory chip...cant think of what its called but its cheap...20-30$ maybe?

its called RAM and you need to buy 2 16 Mb SIMM chips at the computer store. a zip drive provides you with more storage space versus the floppy. a zip disc can hold either 100Mb or 250Mb depending on which opne you get versus a floppy which doesnt even hold 2 Mb. get the zip, though i prefer an external that way you still got the floppy for old stuff.
