note variation slider f**kup

When I use the nv slider on my mpc2000xl, nothing happens except for when "after" is pressed and then it just produces an extremely low-pitched version of the sound, no matter what effect I assigned the slider to. I checked a couple of forums on the web and saw that others have had the same problem. My questions are:
*Do I do something wrong?
*What's the problem?
*How do you fix it?
*Will it be very expensive?

Anyone else had this problem?

I had the same problem with my note variation slider. essentially the pot is probably bad. just take it in for repair...it shouldn't be very costly.

Checked with a servicecenter and it wasn't very expensive, unless it's some broken circuit.
