Is the unit brand new?

Because I would return it and exchange with one that has a manual.

"rang company and said they cant do anything!"

There could be problems. The unit may be an "imported" black market model. If you have to have warranty work performed..., well let's just say you may be paying for it out of your pocket.

For a company that says they cannot do anything about it, I would just return it all for a FULL REFUND as a defective product and find new company that cares about it's customers.

Talk with your wallet, they will eventually listen or go out of business.

Akai is a world-wide. As long as you have your receipt, you will most likely get warranty services if needed. MPCs hold up extremely well so I wouldn't worry too much about it. I would contact VST service if you ever need repair services. A very good company that will take care of your needs.

I buy 'imported' black model items all the time. In fact, 75% of my gear came from overseas.

No, no, no. I think you fail to understand worldwide distribution.

First, it is not "Akai". Akai Pro is the the name of the company that make electronic musical instruments. Akai went out of business years ago and the the two surviving "children" are Akai Pro and Akai Electric.

Second. For many countries, Akai Pro does not handle distribution. Instead distribution is handled by a separate and independent company. These companies pay for warranty work from the sales in their repsective country (since they have essentially an exclusive deal there). The distributor in any particular country is under NO obligation pay for warranty work on a peice that has a SERIAL NUMBER from another country. If I was a distributor, I would not pay for warranty work in which I did not get the profits from the sale of the item.

It's not a question Akai Pro/Numark being a good company, but rather is the distributor one would have to deal with a 'good' company.
