The external zip drive went out on my MPC2K classic

The external zip drive went out on my MPC2K classic. I've had mine for 6 years now and finally the zip drive went crazy and started clicking for every sound I tried to load . I know I need something else because I ain't going back to floppies. But can an internal zip drive be installed into a classic like that of what comes on the new XL's? or do I just have to get another external SCSI zip?

To answer your question........no and yes.
You won't be able to do it yourself but,you could always send it off to Forat and have them do it.But it will cost you.

Thanks...I don't think I need that much modification...I would save my $300 for something else. I'll just get another zip off ebay for $10.00

also look into external card readers for the 2K. They would hook up the same way your zip does now, but are much more sturdy.

I feel your pain. I am going throught the same drama here in London.
Zip drive freaked out after 7 solid years of use.

I need access to all the data on my old zip discs, so I don't see getting a card reader as a solution.

I bought a new 250 zip drive from ebay, but it didn't have a SCSI ID switch at the back (5 or 6 and the termination switch). So my MPC 2000 couldn't locate it.... so be warned!

So... If your buying a new 250 zip drive be careful it has some sort of SCSI ID - at he moment I'm having trouble finding one.

That's a parallel drive.When you search type in Scsi zip and you'll get what you need.

Hey, just thought that I'd post in here too since my 100MB Zip drive went out on me a few days ago. The thing started clicking, as if it couldn't open the metal slider on the disk. Funny thing is, I had just made this AWESOME Fear Factory sounding drum riff (like some kind of machine that was breathing) and saved it. Then two seconds later...click, click, click.

^^^Just replace the zip drive.Hopefully it's not the disk and by replacing the drive you should be o.k.

Yeah, I'm sure it's the drive. NONE of my discs will read. Plus my MPC says "SCSI device not ready". Guess that'll have to be bought next paycheck. In the meantime...I guess there's always my Xbox 360!
