I'm getting annoyed at the whole sliceing off of my samples. That is one major flaw of this machine. It doesn't make any sense to me.

The only portion of the sound that will play is the selection that is highlighted in the trim screen. Check and make sure that the start is set at 0 and the end is where it should be.. Mattic

As far as I know the decay is the furthest out it can go. I'll check if I can push it back some more. If that's the case that's great but I don't think it is. Dudes were always saying to add some silence at the end of the sample to avoid it getting chopped. And that is not cool when I have Gigs of perfectly sliceed samples already.

are you sure it's the end lost... is it only when you map it to a pad. if so you need to change the decay from 5 to 0.

I'm pretty sure I've got the decay at 0. I'll check next time I power up.

You don't HAVE to use silence, that's just their experiences and it always works for THEM. Me, I've NEVER done that cause I don't need it or care about it. You don't HAVE to go and rework your samples it's dude.

If you wanna playback your entire sample as is then set the decay to 0 on begin and end. It should playback exactly how u sample it. Oh and make that that pad it's on has no prior parameters affecting it. cause if you edit a pad and then throw a new sample on it you'll hear the new sample playback with the same old params.

These are samples I have compiled either with software and my S2000. So they were never actually sampled by the MPC just transfered to. Therefor it does not playback exactly how I sample it. It seems I DO have to add silence in order to get my samples to play exactly how I want them to work for ME. Thus my disgust of the MPC truncating my samples.

THis disgust's me too.
Quote from the manual of the mpc:page 108
>slice sound
this edit option is only available from the zone screen. After you have divided a sound into zones you can use this mode to make each individual zone into a new sample. You can also create a new program containing these samples where each sample will be assigned to 16 drum pads.

< Edit Margin: This sets how much samples will be added to at the end of each sample. AS THE LAST PORTION OF SAMPLE WILL BE DIMINISHED BY THE DECAY ENVELOPE WHEN PLAYED WITH A PAD, it is necessary to make the sample longer to play the section fully. The original sample name with suffixed number will be used as the new sample name.

THIS WASTES SO MUCH OF MY TIME. I have to set edit margin : 0 and then insert silence to each sample. For it to sound correct. the edit margin works but you have to tinker with the numbers and the whole concept bothers me.

does anyone know a computer program that you can add silence after sample and rename it very quickly.

Sonic Foundry Batch Converter
using plugin
Sonic Foundry Insert Silence

I've just used it to test what you want to do.

It batch processed:

1. However many seconds I wanted at the beginning or end.
2. Renamed all the samples I threw into quickly.

Right on then. I'll look into to see if Peak does that as well. Sounds good!

in my exp. it's been that you can set the end margin to 0 but you need to just make sure that your decay is at zero also.then it will be a straight sliced sample with nothing added and nothing being cut off by the decay.
the whole end margin thing is just to compensate for there being an auto 5 decay on every pad. if you lose that 5 then your good.

Ok everyone, no one seems to be too concerned with this issue but a tip from Lampdog inspired me to search for some free software to add the silence...in batch form of course. Go to a website hitsquad.com and search for software audacity. It will take care of your "add silence" needs. Personally I think this sucks that I have to do it but it will silence my bitching about the subject. Let the replies of hate insue as they always do......

Sincerely,
Crappy

ok, ok, I know Audacity sucks. The batch function doesn't exactly work how I thought it did. great...

The bithing continues...

I always recommend people to go to hitsquad.com to look for free software.

It's a gigantic place..
