making pads cut each other off

im pretty new to mpc-forum and i did a search on my topic it didnt come up with anythang useful, i was wondering if anyone knew how to make the pads cut off each other before it plays the whole sample piece assigned to that pad. and im not talking about switching it from poly to mono. i am using the mpc 2000 classic...
