Do I need an amp for my inputs?

I'm a new MPC user and I have a simple question...I have a turntable hooked up to my mixer which outputs to my MPC via an RCA cable with stereo 1/4" jack adapters for the left and right. I can hear the sound from a record while monitoring from the sample screen, but it's so quiet. Does my turntable need an amp or do I need a different kind of jack to put in the RECORD IN on the back of the MPC?

Just pump up the record gain on your mpc or check your turntable kizzables. or make sure that your mpc is plugged into the line inputs of your mixer off quideezy fa sheezy.

I solved the problem.. I was using STEREO jacks. I forgot that I should be using mono since there's both right and left jacks on the back of the MPC anyways. I got a 'Y' cord with two mono 1/4" jacks on one end and a female 1/4" on the other. I hooked this to a stereo male 1/4" to female RCA 'Y' cord. From there you can hook up a cord coming from your turntable/mixer or whatever. Now the sampling sounds crystal clear.

is that connection the same as a dual cable?

i have 2 RCAS going into my dj mixer line in

and

2 1/4 jacks into the MPC

but i still get quiet samples!
is there anythig in doing wrong?

ok i figured it out:

i was plugging the RCAs into the PRG2 line outs, not the OUTPUT line out
of my mixer.

it samples fine now.
