Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hi, i just bought a old 2kclassic, it works relly well (im getting better at avoiding double triggering).

The only problem so far, has been the floppy drive. I can almost count on it to fail loading the os when i first start it up, it always work second time only. It makes a sort of scratching sound, and then says something aoubt disk read error.
I dont really mind, but have any of you experienced this problem? what did you do to fix it?

One more question (probably a stupid one), is there any "bad" time to turn off the mpc (besides when its loading), i mean im used to using laptop where you have to prepare the computer to shut down, and its seems all wrong just pressing the button on the mpc, but i guess its not a problem:)?

it could be that the floppy you are using to boot up the mpc is bad. try making a copy of the os on a fresh floppy. your next step is to go to a store and buy a 'floppy drive cleaning kit' (5$), but dont 'overuse' it. if your drive is dead, a new one would not be expensive.

good luck

Turn it off when you are NOT loading/saving to disk. Other than that anytime is fine.

Turn on the MPC with no disk in the drive. After it's on already then put the disk in there. Try that.
