Muting mixer chanels mpc2000xl

Is there a way of actually muting mixer tracks, rather than tracks in the actual sequencer?

The reason im asking is because Im trying to find a way of recording my stuff track by track (I dont have the 8 out thing yet), and my tracks have various sequences so it gets complicated muting things there and also I tend to have different levels etc on the mixer, so dont really want to simply put the fader down on all the ones Im not using, cos it means going back and gettnig all the levels right again.

Any help appreciated (or alternative way of getting my tracks into cubase).... at first I tryed hooking up the mpc through midi & recording like that, but sometimes some of the sounds dont seem right, and also to actually convert to audio, I have to end up going back through my mixer anyway (I have echo mia card & cant work out a way of 'recording what ya hear', like the soundblaster card lets you).

Also, is there a way to midi sync and record audio, as when I sync up, cubase doesnt seem to want to record on its own (i.e, when I sync it will only play & Im having to manually press record, but im wanting each track to start exactly at same point)

I sync up using Midi Time Code where MPC is master and computer (samplitude) is slave. This syncs all tracks up perfectly.
