I am done with the disk they call ZIP

Holy shit, these things suck. I've been using Zip 100's forever but all of a sudden, I'm throwing them out left and right. In the last 2 days, I've thrown out 4 because the 2000xl and my computer couldn't read them. Also I had 1 that started making unhappy ZipDisk sounds. You know, alot of clicking and shit. I've heard of the click of death and almost pooed myself. Immediately ejected and used as a coaster for my beer. My descision to upgrade to a card reader could not have happened at a better time. Hopefully I shoud be receiving it on Monday. I can't beleive Iomega still sells Zip drives. I read a little while back about the band KMFDM losing their entire sample library for an album they were working on. I think they were using Jaz actually. Still Iomega crap none the less. They had to start from scratch. That sounds like fun eh? Thankfully all of my samples are backed up on my computer hard drive and all compositions are on working Zips....so far anyway. I need to transfer my stuff ASAP. I know there are many touchy people on this board and they're going to come back with "never had a problem with my Zip". You know what though? You will. Old technology that's bunk, get rid of it before you "accidentally" get rid of something important. Now all I need to do is find a card reader for my S2000 and I'll be set. Sorry for the rant, all of you who don't have me on your ignore list. I needed to vent to people who can sympathize with my situation because the wifey just don't get it. Anyway......anyone looking to purchase ZIP250 drive for their 2000XL??????

I've moved my 2kxl from floppy to zip to cf reader, best thing I've ever done for my xl...

i had the same thing happen a few years back.everything i saved ended up corrupted.turned out to be the zip drive and not the disk that time.but yeah,bolth the disks,and the drive take a dump after a while.in fact,i had an old 2000xl disk do just that yesterday when i was trying to to load it into my 4000.
ya cant count on the zip's.

lol. yea i recommend them now to start out with since they're pretty easy to use and connect to the mpc or whatever. but i wouldnt put all my trust in them anymore. mine gave up on me a while ago and id rather keep using my floppies then go back to those.....

hopefully will get a card reader sooner then later...but we'll see

its funny you brought this up because my Zip 100 started doing the exact same thing recently. I guess i'll be copping a card reader sooon too.

This is a very true statement. Some media is way more stable than others though.

Zip = unstable.

I have backups of backups.

i started saving om two seperate zips when i still had my 2000xl.

where can i get a crad reader for my XL? preferably not ebay.

Shoot, i updated my whole classic MPC2000 to the MPC200XL-MCD cause of them damn Zip-disks.....i've lost countless completed tracks and sounds cause of them things......they are very unstable!!!

I'm going to go weep in the corner now, cause I have just yall brought up bad Zip memories from the past *sniff....sniff*

sh!t i never knew they were that unreliable, fcuked if i'm losing all my work maybe i'll upgrade to the card reader sooner then...

only thing that bugs me now is the time to load pgms - are those cards quick?

but i guess its true i rocked the floppies till a year ago but it got crazy
i havent had any problems yet but who knows how long that will last.
