Multi Track Recording with the microkorg & mpc2000xl

Greetings, I want to know how to record and playback multiple sounds from the microkorg to the 2000xl. I was able to record one track from the korg and play it back with mpc drums but , I'm not able to record and playback another sound from the korg on a separate track on the mpc. Basically, I wanna have my drums from the mpc, then add a bass from the korg & also synth sounds from the korg all on separate tracks. Then have them all play back together. I'm not sure how to set up the midi channels correctly to do this. If anyone has links to tutorials for these 2 pieces of gear, I would really appreciate it. I did a search on this site but the results were too ambiguous, or maybe my search phrase sucked. Thanx 4 your help.

You can only play one patch at a time, you will need to multitrack it to some sort of recording device ie Protools, Logic, Cakewalk, or Hardware like a Hard disc recorder.

Now is there a synth or keyboard that I will be able to accomplish this or must you always record to an external multitrack recorder/software to have multiple patches/sounds playing with your mpc ? I am new to MIDI and software therefore my knowledge is limited regarding this subject. Thanx again

Yes there are synths out there that can do multiple MIDI track/channels, you'll probably want to look at workstations.
They also have rack versions of most synths, if you just want it as a sound module.

Motif is popular, Triton is big as well, Karma is one too.
It depends on your price range, go to your local Music store and check out what's there.
That will probably give you and idea of what you need to do what you want to do.
I have the MicroKorg and it does a good job, but I also track it to PT to get what I want out of it.

Before you go to the Music store it helps to be up on their terminology.
What you are looking for is a "Multitimbral" synth. A synth that can make more than one sound at a time. Or more properly defined as one that can play more than one patch at a time.
The Motif/Triton/Karma are the big workstations that are hugely popular right now. It might blow your mind how much more powerful than a MicroKorg they are. It may also be way more than you need or can afford.
Check out your used music store for older multitimbrals like Waldorf Micro Q or any of the Nord Lead series.
There's a ton of others out there too. search on "Multitimbral Synthesiser"

I thought the microkorg was multi-timbral?

It can layer two sounds together, but can only play one Patch at a time.
