why do producers speed up samples

why? is there a reason...i was thinkin they did it cuz if the sample has some type of drum in the back ground that they wanted to get out..so they can put put out some of there own drum in there

Most hardware tools don't have great timestretching capabilities, so if a sample is playing at 50bpm, no one is going to rap that slow to it.. therefore speeding it up put's it a tempo more hip-hop realistic.

well back in the day, samplers didnt have a whole lot of internal memory or sample time so the easiest way in most cases to get a phrase in was to sample it at a sped up pitch then slow it down and then chop.
