rack unit

i wanted to get a eb16 board , but someone told me to get a rack unit instead..not quite sure shich is better as far as using and .. which is affordable..help please...thanks

man it depends. theres plenty effects processors out there to use. depends on if you like outboard gear or if you want internal effects. cant really say which is better, but outbard effects are dedicated to just that - effects. so you can get way more effects with the rack gear then with the eb16 (im assuming). although im not really sure what kind of effects the eb16 can give you, so im only speaking on what i know. oh and of course it also depends on which processor you actually go with.

the only thing i wish was that you could resample the effects internally. it sometimes makes me cry.

IMO The EB16 FX Processor sounds amazing for an onboard add-on!

I've currently got a few fx processors: Lexicon MPX550, MIdiverb 4, Studio Quad 4 & have had a few others in the past and while some may sound cleaner the eb16fx sounds analog & warm as it uses the same internal Akai sound chips to output it's sounds.

Plus, the main advantage is that you can apply all effects internally, so if you have 8 outs you're pretty much sorted as you can designate multiple effects to individual patches/outs

So no need to leave the domain of your badass MPC
+ no need to mess around loading patches & wasting time on external modules.

If you don't like the eb16fx board you could always re-sell it on e-bay

Not necessarily. The question you need to ask yourself is "how am I going to use my effects?" If you plan on using lots of "obvious" effects (delays, filters, phasers. ring modulators shit like that) then I'd say somehting like the kp2 is a better bet, as it is a hands on piece of gear, while the eb16 is all software (even if that software is housed in the mpc -- its not like it comes with an extra set of knobs).

For me, the eb16 is non essential, BUT . . . I tend to use a lot of analog filter modulation/distortion type effects that are "unique" to my set up (and which cost a bit more than the eb16) and I record to a digital workstation (dps 16) that has all the "bread and butter" reverbs etc. I could ever want to use--
