(Ex: Tr:01-Kick-PadA2
Tr:02-Snare-PadD3) It takes a min while your creating but it saves time down the line...or why not just go to the track and hit "Step" to find out the pad?
This is a good technique...however, I tend to have more than one sound on each track (i.e I'll bang out snares and kicks on the same track and may have 2-3 sampled sounds on the same track).
Literally my production work flow is to do most of my sample chopping on pc and assign to pads using mpc editor. I then put onto flash card and into mpc and load up several drum programs.... armed with a collection of sounds I'll be experimenting until I find the right drums to fit the track. then once I get the bare bones of the track I'll save .APS and .ALL . The I may revisit another time to do change ups etc, and by the time I actually cmoe to a point where Im happy the track is complete and ready to dump into cubase I literally could have odd sounds here and there coming from as many as 4 drum programs and this is where the time comes in.... if there was some kidna indicator or bouncing meters on tracks that have sounds playing it would make my life sooo much easier, instead I usually end up tapping various pads no variuos drum banks to try and work out whats being used in the track.
Sorry this is so long winded, but I just wanted to explain what I do to see if there are any other approaches people use to smooth out the workflow based on my style of building up a track
