one sample across 88 keys

I was wondering if it were possible to lay one sample across the keys of a keyboard to be played like an insturment, but with an MPC 2000.

I know you can do this with a sampling keyboard and within the MPC, but can I play one sample like a keyboard instrument.

The 2000XL has a feature called Auto-Chromatic Assignment in which you can set a sound to be spread across all 64 pads, automatically. The regular 2000 doesn’t have this feature, so the best thing to do would be to create a template .pgm that you can use every time you want to do this.

Just make a program and tune each pad up and down at certain intervals.

For example,
pad#1, bankA = -15
pad#2= -10
pad#3 = -5
pad#4 = 0
pad#5 = +5
pad#6 = +10
pad#7 = +15

Apply that however you want, with whatever tuning (intervals).

Now you got the program for whenever you want, the only thing that might take some time is making 64 copies of the sound you want and applying a copy to each pad in the template program.

if you're using the classic 2k, the easiest way to do do this is w/ 16 levels set to tune. That should be enough for most purposes (i.e. basslines and simple riffs). If you want more, you need to buy a rack sampler (making the mpc do it, while possible, really isnt worth your time, considering how little rack samplers cost these days).
