CUBASE users... Please help a newbie! MIDI Question

Hi ppl i tried askin this Q on the Cubase forum already and they didn't wna answer me so i thought i would ask the good people at MPC FORUMS and it is related to MPCs so here goes..

I am trying to get my MPC(2000XL) to work with Cubase SX 3, via MIDI. I am tryin to use Cubase simply as a sound module so i can use the VSTs and what not to beef up my melodies. The problem is Cubase won't recognize individual MIDI channels from the MPC and seperate them on different MIDI tracks, so i can play live and hear the shit thru sound modules on Cubase, instead it is playing MIDI channel 1 and 2 and however many more i am using all through the one MIDI track which is VERY frustrating. I know Cubase can handle more than one channel at a time but i just can't figure out how to configure the mofo cuz it is a bit advanced for a newbie like me!

Surely someone here has experience with this and can tell me the simple solution (if there is one?), what exactly do i need to change to get my MIDI channels on seperate tracks. I want them to play all seperately so when i hit play on the MPC i can hear all the different channels at once instead one over-ridin the other!

Pleasse can someone help or try and explain and ease this headache cuz i have spent ages trying to sort this out. I will be forever grateful! Thanks...

From what I understand, Cubase can not be used as a MIDI slave. You'd have to use your MPC as a slave. Pressing play on Cubase will then trigger your MPC, as well as playing all your VSTi's that you'd have to sequence (in Cubase).

i had this exact same problem and there is an easy way to fix it...
you have to use transformers on each track and only let through the midi channel which you want to use on that channel?? i am not sure if this makes sence? but for example
if u want midi channel 4 to go through cubase and play on track 1, u click on the transform button.. (this is the button that looks like a squiggly arrow) you click this and choose LOCAL and then set the rule to (in the presets)
Channel filtering>Pass channel 4

hope this makes sence, if it doesnt let me know and i will try to explain it better, im kind of rushed, but wanted to answer your question now and i know how hard it is to find the answer on the internet from personal experience.

kaosz, that sounds like something someone else told me before. it may just work...i never really understood the transform screen, but ill try what u say. thanks man!

trust me it works, because i had exactly the same problem and this fixes it!! what version of cubase r u both running ?

Thanks guys i have fixed it ! I found a tutorial on here and it told me what KaoSZ said, you need to do it through transform and filter out the channels that you want and it works ! I knew there was an easy solution! Thanks again.

The only other problem i'm having now is being able to play MIDI tracks simultaneously in Cubase so i can use them as a module for the MPC. It is only playing ONE track at a time, so i cant play different VSTs on my MPC tracks over the top of each other... seems so hard to do an easy task, guess that's the downside of using such an advanced program!

Any suggestions anyone?
