Painting Buttons, Part 2

Aight, so I decided to use the ol' Krylon Fusion to paint my buttons. The, when I took my MPC apart last night, I looked more closely at the buttons and saw that they bend when you press them and also they click through the circut board in order to be anchored. So if I paint the whole, thing, chances are that I'll end up with paint chips inside my MPC somewhere, and we all know that ain't cool.

So I'm asking all of you that already painted thier buttons, did you just paint the tops of them or did you paint the whole thing and what was your overall experience with the outcome. Holla Back.

I painted my buttons yesterday. Theyre still drying and I'll be putting them back in the MPC tonight.

I used Krylon Fusion, too. I'll post up pictures and opinions tomorrow. So far, they're looking good.

Honestly, if you wanna avoid paint chips, just be careful and only paint the top of the button (The part that is visible). thats what I did.

But honestly, they look badass all black. Im debating if Im gonna put a clear coat on them or not.

I took them out and painted the whole thing, never gave me any problems...

I also went over em with a couple coats of clear so the paint wouldnt wear as fast...

I just finished.

What a nightmare.

Dont waste your time or money.

I ended up having to buy EZOff oven cleaner and soak all the buttons in it to get the paint off.

All buttons are availeble in black from akai. The xl limited edition have black pads and buttons.

not really. I called VST (the parts and service dept for AKAI) and they said black buttons are on at least a 6 month backorder.

I didn't have the best experience painting mine and wouldn't recomend it unless you know what you are doing. A clear coat might have helped though and I skipped that. They looked kind of cool, but I must not have done the best job as I could feel it wearing when I used a button a lot. Now I'm using an SE3, so it already has the paint job I want

and $58 later, I ordered black pads and buttons from VST.

if anybody wanna paint you're buttons, or anything else, you should first of all scratch them with sandpaper so that they are mat all over , then you should paint them with primer, sandpaper again -- not too much , then color and color -- and finaly several layers of varnish. Then it will hold like on a car... no problem. just take you're time.

DID VST HAVE THE BUTTONS IN STOCK?

yes but they are QUITE expensive.

$42 for all the buttons, not including the cursor , data wheel, number keys, soft keys, or fader knob.

So what went wrong Tic? You said it all looked good then you seemed to be thinking the oposite . What didn't you like about the outcome?
