multi tracking with the MPC 2000XL

Hi,

I'm looking to purchase an MPC 2000XL and I read at a website that it can multi-track. Does this mean that it can multi-track like a Tascam 4-track or 8-track can do. I have a Tascam 788 Digital Portastudio right now and I've been using it to make hip-hop mixtapes and whatnot. I was wondering if the MPC 2000XL can do some of the tasks that the Tascam multi-track can do. Is the MPC more for making beats than multi-tracking tasks like making mixtapes.

My main reason for purchasing an MPC is to create hip-hop beats but it would also be nice to sell my Tascam if the MPC has the ability to multi-track in a similar fashion.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Multitrack as in record sequence data on multiple tracks internal to the MPC. For instance, record your kick-snare sequence on one track, a bassline on another, a hihat mishmash on another...

The MPC is a sequencing production tool (beats and whatever else), not a recording tool.

There are a few new pieces out there (namely that Roland MV 8000 or whatever) that let you record vocals and whatever else alongside your beats, but I don't believe any of the MPCs allow you to do this in a true multitracking fashion. (maybe the 4K, there my knowledge is nil)

I understand now what "multi-tracking" means for the MPC.
I'll have to keep my Tascam for making mixtapes and use the MPC for makin' beats.
