Whaddup ya'll...I have a lil dilemma that myself and a friend have tried figuring out, but for some reason we can't get this to work. I've searched the forums and only turned up a small portion of the questions I need answered. Ok, lets see if the knowledgeable can help me out on this one: For my production set up, I have an mpc 2000xl, a Korg Triton Studio, and cubase Sx. The mpc2xl has 2 midi in's and 2 midi outs. The triton has 1 midi in, 1 midi out, and 1 midi thru. My Delta Sound card has 1 midi in, 1 midi out and I also have an m-audio usb to midi cable that might come in handy in this equation. What I am tryin to do is make the mpc sync with cubase and control the triton as well. The way I normally have my configz is that I have the out/in of the triton hooked up to the out/in of the mpc ...but when I make my beats I usually make my drums on the mpc, sequence the beat on the mpc, and I grab additional sounds from the triton which are midi'd to the mpc (and played on the triton keys, not on the mpc pads) ,.,.Does anyone know how to get cubase into the equation? Cause I want to continue to make beats in the format that I make them, but at the same time, I wanna be able to flip thru my vst's from the computer , play them through my triton, and be able to sequence them thru the mpc. Can anyone in they right mind help me out with this configuration? I just need to step it up and be able to track my beats on cubase or nuendo,.,.someone please help! :?

Hey man when u find out let brotha know.. i got the exact same set up

NOt at my gear right now.. but i usually just repatch the out of the mpc to the in of my sound card and track in cubase when i got a rough mix of the beat i do w/Triton and MPC.. I start addin VSTs and other efx after tracking into cubase. i cant remember which is slave/host tho .

But if i can avoid repatchin ..id love to have it all work in one set up.. if anyone knows that would be tite.

it'd b splendid!!! .,.,.,if someone knew :( ....so you have to repatch and sync your keyboard, and then do the same thing to the mpc? I had one set up that was kinda working, but it turned out being a hassle...i had the triton controlling the vsts...and i was able to use the mpc to control the vsts also...but the problem was when i went to record like a 4 bar loop...i'd have to record it into nuendo and the shit wasn't comin up on point.,.,what i wanna do is be able to sequence everything on the mpc and then trak them onto nuendo.,.,but nobody knows.,.,i'm @ the point where if no one knows i'm probably gonna call technical support or something for steinberg ,.,.,

what are you trying to do track it out in cubase? Do you have a mixer that all your equipment is hooked up to? If so, then just go from the main outs of your mixer to your soundcard and record everything in cubase, just solo each track if you want to tweak the individual sounds. Once it is all tracked into cubase you can put your VST's right over whatever you have recorded into cubase from your mpc...hope this helps.

yea I have it all hooked up to a mixer.,.,.if i track just the mpc and then the triton, how do i get it so that each track is cue'd properly wit the others.,.,cuz just pressing record and then playin whatever I have on my triton and my mpc is not gonna be cued correct each time,.,.all i want to do is what I originally specified in the 1st post of this thread

That's great but I am trying to make clear what you are asking in your first post...by telling me you just want to do what you typed in your first post will not get you very far. If everything is sequenced in your MPC and the triton sounds are playing when you hit play on your MPC then just track it out each track at a time through your mixer...if your triton sounds are not sequenced through your MPC do that first with MIDI...and make clear as to what the hell it is you want to do.

Ok, the triton plays thru the mpc...both mpc sound and triton are sequenced thru the mpc...now what I'm tryna do is b able to sequence the vsts to the mpc and any additional sound I want, then I'll trak each trak into a multitrak prog (aka cubase or nuendo)

I am trying to do the exact same thing and I'm about half way there. I did a search in this forum and it looks as though I found the answer I'm looking for from this post.

http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php ... mpc+cubase

Hopefully this will help you. I'm going to try this out as soon as I get home from work.

you need that MIDI to usb cable...I think it's called a MIDIsport or something...anyway, once you have that, hook it up the exact same way you got your triton hooked up to the MPC and it should work fine...or just track out what you have and then play the VST's over the beat in cubase.

damn, that might be it...now I gotta get home and try that out...my only thing is that I wanna continue makin beats the way I do.,.,which is to sequence all thru the mpc,.,., I make my drum sequence on the mp, then I have the triton midi'd to the mp, so I usually grab sounds from the triton and midi to the mpc....now, heres where i want nuendo or cubase to come in.,.,I need to configure a set up so that I can still continue makin my beats how I normally do, but be able to trigger vsts on the keyboard and for them to be sequenced into my beats thru the mpc.,.,in addition to that kind of setup, I should b able to load sounds on the pads of the mpc and work with them as well.,.,I hope the post b4 mine is the answer to my problem.,.,cause I've been workin at this for like 2 weeks now :(

I'm trying to set mine up the exact way as you. I've been using Cubase SX as my sequencer. I have a Presonus Firestation, Roland JV-1010 rack module and my MPC is being used along with my Midi controller right now just to trigger sounds from battery and other vst's with the pads. The sequencer in cubase isnt as stable as the MPC sequencer and I feel that I lose the creativity that I had with the MPC being the sequencer. I'm getting tired of using the mouse and keyboard so much and my Cubase sequencer gives me problems after about 30 minutes of use. I usually have to save my project and exit Cubase and then reset my patchbay. Too much time wasted and I lose the flow of what I was creating.

I want the MPC to be the sequencer and utilize the VST's in Cubase. My problem was that when I sequence a VST in Cubase it would send the midi message to all the channels. I did what that link said and that aspect of it worked. It now only sends the proper midi to the channel/track it should be on. My dilema now is that when I go to switch tracks, the previously recorded tracks stop playing. SOMEBODY HELP! I'm not sure where to go from here. I really think this setup will be great when it gets working. I can make tracks alot faster with the MPC sequencer and then I can save the midi files from the MPC onto a floppy and then put them in the pc and load them into Cubase and all of my VST's will be saved and ready to go. Anyways, sorry if I'm rambling. Let me know if you might have some ideas how to help this situation.

How should the midi cables be configured??

What's up folks.

The solution Multiple linked to is a template I cooked up for Cubase/Nuendo and if you read through that article it should mostly pertain to you as well, despite the fact that I was targeting 1000 users. (I'm a former 2000 owner myself)

I run a very similar setup. MPC, Karma (nuther flavor of Triton) and Cubase, as well as some other stuff, always changing it out. Using that template and some tweaks so it works on your particular setup, you can sequence entirely within your MPC (controlling Triton on one MIDI output and VST synths on the other) and then just dump the MIDI data to Cubase to render the VST synths, along side the audio tracks recorded from your Triton and/or MPC.

Multiple, sounds like ("when I go to switch tracks, the previously recorded tracks stop playing.") your track solo might be on? I know that sounds silly but just check. As you flip through tracks on an MPC, the track solo selects the currently-selected track, whereas mutes stay with the tracks they're assigned to. I can't think of anything else that could cause the problem your having, I really doubt it's a Cubase problem. Can you break it down step by step so we can see what's the culprit?

One quick thing: If your Cubase is crashing/locking up/etc it's probably bad plugins causing the damage, if you weed out the culprit it should run real smooth.

Right on. Thanks for all of the advice. I'm almost positive that my Solo is not on though. I'll have to take another look when I get home. I have a feeling that it might be the way my midi cables are hooked up but then again everything else works and communicates with each other so who knows.

You want to always keep it simple with MIDI connections, otherwise you're just going to confuse yourself and everyone else hehe.

The simplest setup is basically:

Triton MIDI -> to MIDI in 1 on MPC.

MPC MIDI out A -> Triton MIDI In.

MPC MIDI out B -> Computer MIDI In.

That's it. Make sure your MPC's MIDI Thru is active on all channels or on selected channel or whatever (sorry I don't own an XL so can't tell you where this is located) so you can easily play the keys through the MPC to control either the Triton or the VST synths. Turn off "Local MIDI" on your Triton so you don't have double note problems, and you're good to go.

There's no need to send MIDI back to the MPC from the PC, unless you have a way of sending control data from it that you want to be a part of your sequence. Usually it's better to just map the knobs/etc of the Triton to some CCs and send control data that way. It's simpler.

With the 2k/XL you can send MTC data, unlike with the 1k I have. So you don't need to sync the MPC to Cubase, you can do it the other way around. Sync Cubase to the MTC of your XL. Again, I can't tell you where to locate this info, but try exploring a bit.

Good luck!

Also, when you say "switch tracks" do you mean on the MPC, or in Cubase? Could be something right there... Make sure all of the Cubase tracks are active, meaning all the "monitor" buttons for each track are orange. (the buttons with the little speaker icon)

Sorry if this is overly basic, I dunno how comfortable/experienced you are with Cubase.
