syncing to a DAT...?...?...?

I want to record multiple tracks (one at a time) from the MPC2000xl to a DAT multitrack. How do I sync the two so that each seperate track of the sequnce starts at the same point on the tape. In other words, how do I get the sequence to start and the tape to begin recording simultaneously.
Any advice would be extremely helful. Thanks

what machine are you using?

does it have word clock sync in?

does it read MTC?

do you have any other gear for syncing?

there's SMPTE on the MPC2000xl & a nine pin jack on the back of the DAT (DB-9 connection). The ADAT model is Alesis LX20

I think the only choice you have is to use SMPTE and the SMPTE is not standard on the MPC.

To use SMPTE requires striping one of the 8 tracks of the ADAT with the SMPTE time code to be later used as you master timing signal when you multitrack. This is a very standard operation and there are quite a few How-to's concerning this (I wrote a few of them) and can be found using a search engine like google.
