Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I have to leave my MPC on all the time until I record all my beats to my pc because of course if I turn it off, I lose everything. What do you guys do to preserve your beats and sounds all loaded up in the mpc? I have a zip drive, problem is though is that I load all my sounds from cds into the mpc. If I take out the cdrom scsi and put the zip drive into the mpc, it won't recognize it unless I turn it off and back on. So I find myself just leaving my MPC on all the time, which I don't like to do.

Now I found a site that sells external scsi hard drives for the mpc, which I think I would probably need in this case, but what do you guys do as far as that?

I have left mine on for months...I have done this since I got it like 4-5 years ago...BUT, my screen is completely unreadable unless you know your way around the machine...So...take my advice, it may seem like no big deal...and honestly, a couple of days won't hurt it...but months take their toll after time...
