Manually Time Stretching on the MP

I ran across this video with Pete Rock displaying some of his techniques on how he produces some of his songs and he spoke upon utilizing the time stretching feature manually. I wanted to know if anyone knew what he was talking about when he was saying it's easier to utilize the time stretching feature manually on the mpc.

What does the time stretching feature do within a mpc and how do you utilize this feature manually????

I know the feature is there on a MPC XL but I'm working with a MPC 2000 and I was wondering how would it work within a MPC 2000. I know there's some similarities and there's some differences, but if anyone can assist me with this question holla at me because I'm very curious about this certain feature within the mpc.

I don't know about the classic one........but I'm SURE it's in the manual

basically he took a 2 bar loop, chopped it up into 8th notes so it was 16 pieces.. played it out how he wanted to in the sequence, then changed the bpm on the sequence.. simple as that

time stretching small samples is quicker than long loops/samples.

How do you take a 2 bar or a 4 bar loop, and chop it up into 8th notes so it can be 16 pieces???

GO to trim mode, then select zone, change the number of zones to 16 if it aint already done, an then go edit--->slice sample....

Actually with the classis 2000,
you have to go under zone and chop each piece manually and hit edit. Basically one by one until you have the sample chopped up.

there is no time stretch on the classic

D has the 2000 classic, he'll have to use software to timestretch, and manually chop in the mp or chop in software also. No other choices.

Except using alternate hardware to timestretch

yep, that too, it just won't be done inside his 2k classic.
