Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

yo i just got my mpc2000xl, i sampled a few things into it and began to make a song. everything played fine when i was recording but the kick.
when i record and used the pad i assigned to the kick sample, no matter how quick i tap it, it doubles up. when im not recording i can push it in and it doesnt double it up. shit is frustrating me badly, whats the problem and how can i fix it?

ive tried assigning it to different pads and that didnt help. is the sample too short? whats the prob?

Its the way your hittin the pad, its got a double up feature for the pads so when you hit it the sounds doubles up...guess for like a little roll type thang...Try hittin it with a little more distance cause I know if Im just tapping the pad it doubles up a lot more...but to answer your quest. No, I dont believe your mpc's broken.

HAHA...Yeah, hang in there and develop the technique. I remember having the same problem many years ago. If it's really bothering you, go into params and turn off poly.

Go into your program menu hit paramaters and for the kick you're having problems with turn from poly to mono. This will solve that problem. You may even want to turn other pads to the same setting pending on the sounds you're tapping and how you want them to playback.

In my opinion, your problem can come fron different causes.
First, I'd check in the "step edit" menu.
If you really have 2 consecutive notes. If you actually have, try to reduce the quantization (in most case, you don't need 1/32 or 1/16(3).) It could happen to be to fine. Start with 1/8 as long as you're not perfecty at ease with taping beats.
If you don't it could be that you looped your sound.

thanks for the help, i ended up scrapping the kick sample, i was thinking it was too short, i re-sampled it and it works fine now. who knows what it was. thing that was bugging me the most was that i could playback what i had already made, and play the kick fine during play mode, but during record it'd always double. problem solved though for now. if i get it again ill keep your advice in mind, thanks.
