MPC2kxl cant see the250mg zip drive??????????????

i recently bought a mpc2kxl.got the manuel offline, registered here and started reading.as suggested in the forums here i got 2-zip drives both 250s one usb the other scsi and a 50HD to 25DB SCSI cable.the usb seems to work fine my computer sees it and it comes up on the desktop.but if i turn the mpc off and connect the zip, the mpc gets stuck on "detecting memory" when i turn back on.if i turn the mpc on first then connect the zip and go to the load menu it just reads "wait" or "waiting".could be the drive or the cable???? i got them both from the computer goodwill in ATX.
last thing: the scsi zip wont even hold the disk in as soon as i put it in the drive kicks it out?????[/quote]

after reading further in some more recent post the cf reader seems to be the thing.but i still cant get clear picture on how the whole thing goes down.i have followed links to manufactures and instructions and im still looking here...........

That's one of your problems right there. If, when you hooked the SCSI up, the MPC was powered on, then your SCSI chip is prolly blown. If you hook-up/un-hook SCSI while the MPC is on, you can kiss your SCSI capabilities goodbye. But you're right; you're better off with a card reader anyway.

so if the scsi is dusted my 1st question is if there is a way to know for sure if the scsi is blown?? my 2nd is about repair options??
when i go to the load menu , on device there is 2 options:floppy and cf rom.
does this mean that OS1.20 is already installed?in the setup you can still choose a scsi id# as well as the other 2 options

It should say floppy or FLASH ROM. Flash ROM isn't a CF card...not even in the same family, but we won't get into that.

When you upgrade, FLOPPY gets replaced with ATAPI. OS 1.20 has NOTHING to do with cards or card readers. I have a card reader and use OS 1.14 with NO problems. OS 1.20 makes it so storage media (floppys, Zips, Cards) can be recognized by PCs. I don't use OS 1.20, because it seems much more unstable than 1.14 IMO. I just format all my sh!t in the PC.

And yes, normally you can choose different SCSI devices if you have the card reader installed. I still have my SCSI 250Zip drive hooked up in case cats droppin in to get busy still have Zips instead of cards.

Good News though.......cus i know you were loosing sleep behind it.
i spoke with the guys @VST and they said that blowin the scsi was more of an issue with the 2k and 3k not so much with 2kxl.but if you know of a way to test it (without a scsi device)let me know. dude @VST said the zip250 i got wont work cus its a db25 not scsi,said its gotta have a way to choose a scsi ch. im gonna take the db25 zip back and get a scsi cdr.if you know witch ones work let me know.i think there is a plextor and a hp9200e series??
and you were right,it did say floppy,flashROM or scsi0-7
the 2kxl is @ the lab and there is no internet there so i posted that without the 2kxl in front of me.i got the MCD kit on the way and a cf reader for my MAC.
so you think i should stick with 1.14 and format the cf cards on my mac??if i do will the mpc2kxl still read it ok??

Is the terminator switch on your scsi zip drive turned 'ON' ? And what scsi ID is your ZIP drive set to ?

I think we've seen this problem before.
If SCSI isn't even an option in the list when you scroll, the fuse is blown, no matter what's up with the terminators and ID's

in response to the scsi id thing,the zip i got was from this computer graveyard/goodwill in ATX and the drive i got was a DB25 drive with a scsi adapter and no scsi id# ch.,so that was the issue from the gate

and the scsi option0-7 is still showing up in the file menu.the cat where i ended up ordering the MCDkit from said it isn't as much of an issue with the 2kxl as ti is with the 2k and 3k.but on the glass half-full tip it is still showing up in the load menu
