Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Somebody help? I have been through this over and over. Here is what I want to do. I want to use a footpedal to trigger samples from the drum pad during live performances. I programmed my footswitch(behringer fcb1010) to send program changes higher than 64, which is what the manual said the value needed to be to turn on the drum pads. I went to the footswitch setup page on the mpc, and set the ctrl: value to match my switch, and the function for pad 1, and NOTHING. I even tried setting the behringers control change setting switch for values all higher than 64. I have to be missing something simple, but these manuals are so dry I get confused. I am new to this MIDI thing, but not that new. Is it definetely a program change that the mpc needs to receive for this? Can this be done? Is it another command? Anyone here ever use one of these behringers? is the mpc1000 better equiped to do this sort of function?

Triggering the samples on the MPC is done with a Midi "note on" message. I think you can program your footswitch to send Midi note messages. You can see which note corresponds to which samples in the program edit mode on the MPC.

The footswitch ctrl would be better for starting/stopping the sequencer etc.

^^^^^^^^^^^^

Yeah, you want to send note on messages. See page 14 of your FCB1010 manual.

I got it to work for a minute, but only from one of the control change functions from the behringer. What are the ctrl: values on the MPC. I may just have to use my hands, which is hard because I'm a bass player. Does anyone know if control changes can be done from any switch onthe behringer? thanks, I have the concept, I even had one switch working, but I forgot what I did.
