I'd say the best monitors are the ones you like best. So go to a shop and start listening to your favourite tracks through different monitors.

Yep but best to his preference. He may like the M-Audio Dx4s but we all know those arent the best monitors but will get the job done.

Another things is get you some pretty solid monitors and like Mr. P said listen to your music through them. As long as u can get a good mix u good to go cause remember u arent mastering you are getting a good mix.

But good luck with them.

Also know the difference btw Passive and Active. Check da link.

Well at least u already know how it will sound being played in cd players and stuff.

When i mix i have to then take it and play it in various stereo equipments to make sure my levels, eq, ect.. is right.

I roc "Alesis Monitor 1 Active MKII Powered Monitors" which are cool for the price, $350 pair. But my ace got some "Event Studio Precision 8 Powered Monitors" and they are tragically-ill-matic!!!!!!!!!
But they cost $1,200 for a pair.

I use the Event TR8's and they sound clean.. you might wanna look into snatchin up a pair of Yamaha NS-10's though.. they ol skool, but they sound tight.. good for mixing too

peace,
