Can you use a midi to usb cable to sequence in cubase? I'm using turtle beach midi 1x1, it's apparently for keyboards but I tried connecting to in-2 out-b of my xl and when I run soundcheck it gives me an error Device is in use, wait till it is free then try again. I can't think of any parameters I'm missing

Yeah. You should be able to. Cubase will see it as a Midi device. Even with nothing connected. There is a software error somewhere. First of all try reinstalling your Midi 1X1 drivers.

Cubase sometimes adds a line to your "system ini" file that takes over all your Midi devices even if the program isn't running. Also check your default Midi device in your control panel.
