OS 1.14 to 1.20 WHY??

hey whats up,

My MPC 2KXL is currently running OS version 1.14. My question is what are the benefits of upgrading to OS 1.20? Is it a nessasry upgrade? Just wondering if there is any need/reason to upgrade or if im good where im at.

Also im planning to install a card reader soon. which O.S. should i use for that?

If u are installing a card reader than u will need 1.2

thats not true. i think most people use 1.14 with the card reader (i do), and some people use even earlier editions.

i have heard some people have problems with 1.2 but like you, id like more details.

Well i though 1.2 was for MCD readers and 1.14 was for zip drives and floppy drives. Maybe im wrong.

Yeah, start with 1.14 and upgrade to 1.2 if you need it (mainly for larger cards).

There are already plenty of threads about this subject. Have a read through to see the pros and cons. I'm rocking a card reader with 1.14 and no probs...

Yep, you're right Jac. The MCD model has that OS on it as far as I know.

ok thanks guys...so the OS V 1.2 was made just for people with the MCD version of the Xl or people upgrading to a card reader? There are no other new features? or bug fixes in 1.2? If thats the only reason i may as well keep my 1.14 if it works with my reader.

Hey Maxlifo, what model card reader are you using with OS 1.14? I just ordered a IISDMC from amtron. Hopefully it will run with os 1.14

I have a 2kxl cf reader, 512mb Lexar card, I'm on 1.14.
I'm fine, my mpc is fine.

per MPC3000--
1.2 does not add any "card specific" handling, just changes the MPC's 'format' operation to a PC's partition table style. Applies to hard drives, zips, SM, CF, PCMCIA drives.
The limit for this format is the same for FAT16: 2 Gig, non-partitionable.
