Memory questions

I just bought an XL. and obviously i want to up the ram.

So.

1.what is a good chip to buy? not to expensive
2.how much more sampling time do i get from more ram?
3.I am bad with taking shit apart,really bad.. all i would need is a screwdriver right, and is this process long or hard?
4.this obviously voids the warranty right?

First of all as far as memory cop edo sim memory cards. They are a bit faster than the regular 16mb sim chips. As stated in the back of your manual it is advisible to get two 16mb chips as opposed to one 32mb chip. And actually installation is a breeze, all it takes is a little observation and a cautious hand. Installing the memory can run you anywhere from $10- $80 pending on where you get your memory from.
As for sampling time you get like 7minutes of sampling timein mono and half of that in stereo. I can't give you the exact number because the MPC is currently in use and I haven't thought about sample memory since I put mine in. And yes all you need is a Phillips screwdriver, just take care to unplug the MPC and make sure your not working on carpet as you do not want to f**k up yourcircuit board with a static discharge from your body. It's just that easy PLAYA!!.

I got 2 16mb memory chips at guitar center for 15 ducks each. Check in the faq's for the exact kind that you need.

aight. sorry but i really dont understand this shit.

i looked at mpc2000xl.com and i figured they would have some good info. and now after reading all of that im more confused.

if someone could just hit me with a direct link to 16mb chips to work with mpc2000xl id really appriciate it and im sure it wouldnt take long, sorry for my ignorance.

is that 5 dollar stick legit? it says 60ns and i read at mpc2000xl that it needs 70ns or somthing . . . not trying to sound like an ****, but i really broke the bank buying this machine, i need to be careful what i buy.

"70ns or faster" is what is says, I got mine two years ago and havn't had a problem yet. They also have what they call"Hyper speed memory" that comes with a lifetime replacement warranty for 10 bucks a stick.

The lower that access speed (60ns) the faster the chip can render data to/from your MPC. You want the lower number.

ns stands for nanosecond which is the time frame that it takes for data/samples to travel to/from RAM to/from your MPC.

Hi all, Just to say, I'm in a similar situation to aaron, and was wondering what number of pins the ram has to have. I've looked up 16 MB edo ram sticks, and it says that they are 72 pin. Is that right for the 2KXL?

I'm buying it in the UK, so it costs more, but hey, it's guaranteed I guess.

Next comes a zip drive, which I've found for about 60 quid (90$).

He ships very promptly. The extra memory costs $20 with shipping included. Your MPC will be fully expanded to 32 MB.

72 pin edo ram 60ns or faster, it's in the 2kxl manual..

I just installed those 2 chips that I bought off ebay for like $20 bucks total. For real...the hardest part was unscrewing worn out screws that were screwed in too tight into my MPC. As soon as you get that baby open...you just gently place them into the alloted slots. They are first inserted on a slight slant..and then push back into place. And they work like a charm..booted up my MP..and had like 700 seconds of sample time or something..which is a HELLUVA lot better than that 21 sec mono i was workin with before.
