Getting that live feel using step edit and swing.

Hey guys.

I've been reading alot on J dilla and one thing that i see that keeps coming up is that he played with a laid back style. Now I know that he played with no qauntize which i already do but i read today that he would also use step edit to get that feel also. Plus today all day i have been playing around with swing and the different percentages but I rarely see a big difference in the swing unless i use the note repeat. Any answers to these questions would help big time. thanks.

As soon as you are used to the MPC´s sequencer resolution and you know how long each note has to be and when exactly it has to start you may manually shift some notes in the step edit mode out of the quantized timing to get very individual shuffles, flams and rolls.
Like pr said, you will find your preferences in doing that by experimenting.
