Damn mpc screws!

Hi,

I know this is going to sound real stupid but has anyone else had difficulty removing the screws holding the floppy drive (you know the two screws in the underside indent)? - I'm trying the CF reader upgrade.

On my MPC the screws are in just too tight and the screw metal seems too soft. I've almost threaded the screws just from turning force (not from jumping over the thread). Yes I know how to use a phillips screwdriver and that you have to be careful with the thread.

If I can't get those two screws out what else should I do? I was looking forward to a CF upgrade, but I'm kinda stuck now.

You can try two things:
After setting the screwdriver on the screw, push real heavy onto the screw with the screwdriver while slowly turning the screws.
If that doesn´t help, drill the screwheads out and set in new screws...

But be very careful when doing this. I had to use a little more force like this and I accidentally broke my slider knob because of the force jamming the slider into the table I had the maching sitting on. Make sure you lift your MPC off the surface when pushing down on them screws. I didn't realize that I damaged my slider until I went to go edit a sample. Now I have to send the unit off get the slider fixed. Turning the dial sucks when your trimming samples.

when i did my card reader upgrade, i found that the previous owner of my baby had stripped the heads of these two screws.

5 minutes with a cutting wheel on a dremel (or similar) sorted them out.

Tip. if you are going to take this route, wear eye protection.

In general if the head of a screw is totally ****, there are a few different methods to get it out.

Ok, good news CF reader is installed and working, with no damage to mpc (other than two replaced screws for mounting the reader). In the end I managed to get one of the screws out. Then I was able to wobble the bottom tray enough to loosen the burred screw.

The only other issue was finding a 40/40 IDE cable.
