Describe your first 24hrs with your MPC.

Just curios as to what everyone did that first day your MPC was in your hands. Did you try and sequence or sample when you first plugged it up?

wow where do i start, first i sat and looked at what i bought.
i could not belive it. then i read the manual to see where to start.
i was lucky when i boght it i got ten free floppys with sounds.
it took me a couple days to figure out how to work it , it took me a couple days and nite without sleep.
but now i think i got it, and thanks for this site i am now a member of the mpc club

wow i got the cheese for the xl 1390.90 on mAY 8TH 2001 . I WAS souped i got pulled over on the way home from dj world in providence. i had no freaking idea about all the money i had just spent on but i wanted to make beats/produce. it took me all summer to just get the basics , after that clicked i just got into the whole thing more and more. so many trials and tribulations and now i am here. summer of 2002 from may to august no mpc. i have been through so much and just keep learning about my music and the biz. as of right now i am in similar situation as summer 2002 , hitting rock bottom. my supposed crew threatened me like crazy and were such the wrong people i should have been with this past summer 2003. although i lost no music or my mpc , they did jack me for my mac g4 733 which i paid 1740 for in december 2001, turntable and mixer cheap ones , speaker stands, xbox ,random cables etc.. etc.. AND ON TOP OF THAT they blamed me for there 4000 getting took. super BS , i wish i did i wouldn't be so broke. i was in A town and got nothing but love from locals. my supposed crew was from my home state. and not to mention i had 4300 dollars to put out a 12 inch that i sold my car to due that never happened. I truly am in this for me know not to be selfish but i put crew b4 me and got phucked. live and learn , i am only 22 so fluck all haters .fake beatches try taking my name , but OSK will stand tall and watch the rest of em fall. i got my life , my goals , my word and balls and i will never starve

didnt know half of what the thing was capable of and it was just fun pushing the butons

i was sick as hell my 24hours so i couldnt do anything on the mpc for a couple days, unless i wanted snot and shit fallin on it.

damn ocean, that is a horrible story. hope shit gets better

I downloaded the manual before I even got the MPC so that kind of helped. I also had the Roland SP808 previously so I had some familiarity with it. I was very frustrated my first 24 hours because my sh*t kept turning off in mid-work and I didn't know why so most of my beats were never finished. I was gonna send the sh*t back but I decided to open it up and found the problem. On of the studs on the power board wasn't soldered correctly so I took care of it. After that, the rest has been history.

Hold ya head, ocean. Everything happens for a reason and if it was meant to happen it was for the best. You may not see it now but later you will.

all i got to say.. is that my 24hours... actually my first 72hours was a b-itch...

i couldn't program shiz for shiz... i couldn't even program two bar loop... its my my first hardware drum machine.... and i always had the notion that cats used two hands... one for kick one for the snare... i didn't see how it was possible... when you can only record one track at a time... i always thought... while you hit the kick... the kick info gets recorded to track one... and while hitting the snare... the snare info goes to track to....... but when someone posted a link to this:

Providence is full of haters and d!ckriders, straight up. I live in Attleboro, Mass, which is right next to Prov, but I don't even go to the shows there, I'll be found in the Bean. Every "MC" i've met from the Rhode Island area is a lil b!tch sh!ttalking biter, and I've met a few. Not to say they're all whack, but I wouldn't be caught going in on any business deals with anyone from Prov that I didn't know for a minute, that's for sure. Sorry to hear about all the negative energy, though, OSK.

As for my first 24 hours with my MPC....I wish I had kept the beat I made...silly sh!t, for sure. All I knew was to load sounds and hit pads with the record on, but it was the most important 24 hours of my life creativly, even if the beat sucked

First 24 Hours,

I liken my first 24 hours with the MPC ….to a child who first learns how to put his sentences together, and form rational thoughts. Or maybe to when you were a kid and always watched basketball with your pops, and its that one day that you finally pick the ball on your own, and start playing. It’s a beautiful thing. Yea the beats may have been trash compared to the Greats we all look up to (large pro, jaydee, prock, primo), but I honestly remember when I put together my first coherent sequence that someone could actually flow over.

Then you look over at the thick *ss manual, and your crates and crates of records, and copies of MPC TUTOR Forum Topics that you printed off the website on chopping, multi-tracking, or whatever..and you realize, “damn..I just started”.

That’s just how I see it. Add on to the thought if you feel me.

I remember printing off "how to's" regarding the MPC years ago, even though I didn't own one. I was just so interested in how this thing worked, or moreover, what it could do.

Now I'm waiting it's arrival and I have a pretty good idea of what I'm going to do.

My partner has tons and tons and tons of sounds that I'm going to spend a few days checking out. But before I sample some of his sounds, I'll prolly tweak some kits on my synth and sample those and make some sort of beat.

My first 24 hours with my MPC were hell. I didnt know jack sh*t about what I was doing and the damn manual looked a bit too thick for me to go reading LOL. I didnt even know how to plug the damn thing into my PC so that I can start recording. Actually, I didnt learn how to hook it up for at least a month. All of the emplyees at the Guitar Center (where I bought it) were giving me different suggestions and selling me different cables that I didnt even need. Finally, one employee came at me correct and sold me that correct cable I needed and showed me exactly how to plug it in and where to plug it. After going online and buying sample disks, things with my MPC 2000XL are looking a little better LOL. I love this damn thing, and thanxxx to yall on this site, Im still learning things about this machine. Peace and props to everyone on this forum!

I didnt even turn mine on for the first week I had it....I just looked at it and put it in bed with me like a teddy bear when I went to sleep at night....I studied the fuk out Midicase, the old site(remember?) and this site and just started playing around with the sample disk until I copped the memory and zip drive....I can't believe that so much could come out of this one box....it took me 3 years just to save up for it too.....



short story about it though, originally I was suppose to cop one off of Ebay for like $800 I think....the sale price for the machine at Guitar Center was about 1500 with the zip.....after saving $900 which I had made into a deposit at GC a month earlier, I figured that it would be better just to cop this deal off of ebay and save some cash.....allI had to do was csh in my deposit and finish the deal with the guy....so with the clock ticking I headed up to GC with my deposit reciept in hand to to get money back...the head manager wrote me out a check and I headed back down to my bank to put it into my checking account...well, thats when the bank teller told me that the check was bunk and I would have to have GC call them to verify it...so I called GC on the outsode payphone and they said that not only wasnt it bunk but that its not their responsibilty to handle that with the bank....so I take the buss back to the store and the asst. manager tells me to go to all these other banks in the area and to just deposit it instead of trying to draw against it...well, after walking all up and down the **** county on the hottest day of '02 to every other **** bank and having them all tell me the same damn thing, I finally returned to the store sweaty, and pissed as all hell....the check was like soggy inmy hands from sweating and I was not gonna take it anymore-I was gonna make one more impassioned plea for my money back.....itsnot like I didnt have proof- I had two forms of proof in fact-so I calmly told the asst. to call his damn boss and tell him that I dont have all **** day and I want my money.....the asst. tells me that I should have did this and that with the bank to which I replied"I cant **** do that cuz the **** bank wont let me!!!! and I sure as hell am not gonna put a bad check in my account! HELL NOOOOOOOO!"....so then in a fuss I told them to jsut put the money back into the deposit and i'll just eat the **** bad feedback....well.....on my way out, I hear this poot butt b1tch mocking me which I do not like at all and that pretty much changes it from a they cant give me my money to a they wont give me my money kind of situation, yow mean, mane?....sooooooo...I did what came naturally and picked up one of them there gumball machines and threw it at the guitar rack stand in the store...unfortunately for the asst. this dumbass runs up and intercepts it in the chest and falls back into the rack, causing the guitars to fall on him and break.......So then this nasty ass Vietamese b1tch runs up to the front and yells that she is gonna call the police...the asst. gets up, yells at me and then goes to the back while the onlookers and others salespeople observe the carnage..I then walked out and sat on the concrete ledge and waited for The Man to show up....needless to say, The dipshit pressed charges and I did a month in county and 3 more in the city workhouse(parole violation) and almost had to pay a huge bullsh1t fine(2,000 which was reduced from the 9g's GC wanted me to pay cause they had other pending lawsuits against them for similar reasons)but in the end it was worth it though...My girl ended up helping me payoff the fines and I was finally able to buy the XL.........Moral of the story- GUITAR CENTER IS **** SHADY AS SH1T, YOW MEAN?...IF YOU EVER WANT A REFUND ON A DEPOSIT OR ANYTHING DO NOT TELL THEM THAT YOU FOUND THE ITEM FOR A LOWER PRICE AS THEY WILL DICK YOU THE FUK AROUND LIKE THEY DID ME....FORTUNATELY I SUED THEY ASS SO I WOULDNT HAFTA PAY THAT DAMN FINE.....AND IT DOES NOT PAY TO LOSE YOUR TEMPER BUT ITS NECESSARY WHEN NECESSARY.........
