zip drive not ready..help!

I just installed my new nec 100mb zip into mpc and it said atapi when i
turned it on but it says drive not ready when i put disk in or turn jogwheel!

whats wrong??
what do i do??

please somone help me out!!

try turning the unit(MPC) on and off a few times until the zip is working...pop in a disk and see if it'll read that orjust leave it and see if the message disappears......

btw...relax......it aint the end of the effin world, mane....just disconnect that and try hooking it back up again to see if it'll work....there is an OS upgrade floating around here somewhere that addresses this kind of thing but I am not sure..........

I know most times i gotta turn the wheel after I hit shift load, In my case seems like the akai needs to be reminded that theres a zip in their. Maybe thats what ya got goin on there...

That is exactly right. Zip drives will spin down and `go to sleep` on their own (they do this PC's also). If it does, it helps to to hit the load screen first to wake up the drive with a READ op, then switch to SAVE.

There was a nasty bug at one time that in which the MPC would lock up if try to first do a SAVE on a sleeping drive (from which it would not wake).
