Starting the MPC w/ MIDI Footswitch

Hey all,

I'm a noob to the forum, but I've been reading lots of posts which have helped me tonz with my mpc2000xl. So, thanks to everyone who participates.

I'm having problems getting the mpc to start using a MIDI footswitch. I have a Yamaha MFC-10 MIDI footswitch, and have programmed one of the function pedals for START.

In the MIDIsw screen on the mpc, I'm setting the Function: to PLAY or PLAY STRT, but I have no idea what value to put in the Ctrl: field. Any ideas?

I know I'm getting MIDI into the mpc from the pedal, because I can send patch changes and other controller data to a JV-2080 that is coming out of the mpc.

I'm mostly wondering what needs to be in the Ctrl: field for PLAY or PLAY STRT, but am I barking up the wrong tree?

I figured it out, and here's how it works in case anyone else is interested:

The MFC10 pedal I have allows you to assign specific functions to the footswitch buttons. It allows you to assign START and STOP, but there aren't any additional control parameters you can enter for those functions. This is a problem for the MPC, because in the MIDIsw screen, there needs to be a number in the Ctrl: field that matches data being sent by the footswitch, so the MPC knows to start or stop (or whatever) when it receives that particular MIDI control value.

So what I did is assigned some generic control functions to a couple of the footswitches on the MFC10, which allowed me to also assign whatever control values to those functions I wanted. So I assigned control number 10 to one footswitch button, and 11 to another footswitch button. Then, in the MIDIsw window on the MPC, I assigned Ctrl:10 to PLAY STRT, and Ctrl:11 to STOP. Then it worked great.

The confusion came when I assumed that the function for START in the MFC manual would be recognized by the MPC.
