DURATION of various NOTES

ok this is my problem (i have done a search but not been able to help myself with my findings)

lets say i sample a piano note from vynil, which is 3 seconds long. i have it loaded into my mpc 2000xl with the 16 levels or autochromatic function.

problem is that the higher notes are shorter and the lower notes are longer. i know this is because the sounds are sped up and slowed down in order to create the specific note.

i have experimented with timestretch function but i dont understand the formula for % which will make all the notes equal in length. i also dont know how to match up my sample type with the "time stretch presets."
timestratch sounds like a lengthy process when i have to stretch many notes so they are all the same lenght but different note

also, im yet to totally understand the editing section of the manual and im unsure about the "duration of recorded notes" function in the "step edit" sreeen. pg 64 of manual..........is this the answer to my problem?

ive also tried to loop my sample, so as to keep it continuous in length but cant come up with a smooth sound. only bouncy clicks.

are there any other ways to solve the problem?

what is the quickest way?

Doing the loop thing on a single shot string is not for the faint of heart at all. You got find good loop points moving the start and end points around ALOT or (being more specific) find zero crossing points and move the start and end points to the beginning and end of certain cycles respectively.

I use it every now and then with Sound Forge and MPC.
I works for me cause I've experimented with it alot and
nothin comes perfect without messing up a couple of
million of times ya dig..

yo

using the calculator, if i want to transpose my note by 2 semitones, i have to apply a time stretch of 112.246%

in the 2000xl manual, it says that it is best to stay within a -10% +10% boundry.

so i can only transpose 2 semitones and im already exceeding the recomended percentage zone!

thats sucks

i want to be able to have all midi notes (like a keyboard) and have them all the same length.

WHAT DO I DO?

My guess is to decay the longer lower notes and carefully time stretch the shorter quicker notes. I don't know, I don't really have answer to that one. I just use my triton.

OH MY GOD, you got some learning to do homie.

Experiment and see what sounds best to you. Get hold of a Wave Editor and put it's time stretching features to use. That will be faster and more accurate than MPC timestretching.

Triton is a sampling workstation synth keyboard that aliens have graciously given to the human race within the last decade.. No foreals though. It's a keyboard.

Krokus mane! You really havent heard of the Triton?!?!?!? :shock: ..the Triton is the Korg flagship keyboard/workstation....this thing is a monster as everyone should know by now...Used by almost every other RnB, pop, and hip hop producer in the game, mane, yow mean?.....it samples and does a bunchof other stuff that I wont get into now....its been out since 98 I think and is already in its 4th incarnation as the Triton studio.....mane, I get moist just lookin at one in one of them there catalogs.....the only thing it cant do is give sloppy head under the table but you can get yourself a girl for that.......Trust me, the Triton can fix your problem..

ha ha.....i know, i have a SHIT LOAD to learn

actually i just didnt recognise the triton by its name

a guy i know recently got one and he showed me a picture of it on the net and now i remember it.

can it sequence. can a triton competely replace an mpc 2000xl?

It is only a "recommended" 2 semitones, of course go way above and below that zone cause you never know what you will like and not like. TRY EVERYTHING. You might run across something at -4 semitones that sounds nice to you ya dig?

mane, this thing could replace your girl....I seen it happen....like, after you spend 24 hours with it, it'll change you...it'll ruin your relationship with your lady...Mane, I played with one and almost forgot what pvssy felt like, yow mean?----------
