get my pgms from mpc-zip to computer

hey forum,
i bought me a mpc 1000 and sold my good ol' 2kXL. now i'm looking for a way to transfer my stuff from a 250mb zip to my computer, so i can put it on my new 1000. but the computer doesn't read this zip-disk. what can i do?

if you've ever formatted those disk in the mpc then it's not gonna read on the pc. I got 3 disks right now that I need to read on my pc. I need to find out a way as well.

do you have a 250mb usb zip for your computer?

If you formatted the disks originally on the mpc with an os earlier than v1.20 then you won't be able to read those disks on your computer, unless there is some converter software that I haven't heard of.

no, i have an old-school scsi zip from 1999.
my mom works at a doctors and they still use zip to backup every evening. i thought i could just sneek into the medical office, install some converting program and burn my 250mb an a cd for good.
every piece of music i made from 1999 is on this disc...

I don't know of any program that can read mpc formatted zip disks, that does not mean they don't exist though.

hm, but isn't a akai formated zip the same format as an akai sample cd? if it is so, i only need some software to convert cds, open it and browse to my zip-disc instead of the sample-cd.
does anybody know a good (free) software that can read / convert akai sample cds?

Getting a pc to read your MPC disk is not a problem.

You just have to be very specific when handling. If you are going to use WIN XP, you MUST make sure that you download IOMEGA drivers for ZIP100 or ZIP250 or else WINXP will destroy/corrupt your MPC zip disk.



OR

You can use WIN 98, which does not corrupt your ZIP DISK.

You can then move your MPC files over to your PC.

OR

You can use a MAC - which will read just about any type of disk without jamming you up....

The problem i got when copying mpc programs to my '98 desktop is that there are files on the mpc zip disk with the same name and extension...

The mpc can differ between those files but the windows os can't.

Anyone got a solution for that?

had the same problem. i think windows cuts the filename after 6 letters. i started saving the 250 mb from the zip on floppies, but it took me ages to save, rename, load them in my new 1000 and rebuild the pgm in there.

I have the same problem on my PC with my USB zip disk. Looking to move the programs or just the samples onto the mpc1k. The PC will open the disk up just fine but it appears to have killed the file names for many of my samples if they were lonwger than 8 characters. I attempted to rename the files and windows just got confused and renamed all the files to the same name. So I won't be attempting that again on my windows pc, maybe I will try it my mac later today. I remember there was a pc program that would open the mpc2k program files. If I atleast could open the program and get all of the original sample file names I could just rename and drag them over as needed. But not sure if it is worth all that effort...

Has anyone gotten around the file name limitation? Is there a program that will read a mpc2k program file and list out all of the samples and pad assignments? This might be an easy way to recreate the programs...

No, your stuck with sticking 8 characters or less, this has been discussed a million and one times in the forums, 8 limit, win98, mpc-formatted disks. Everything you guys have been saying AND the answers have been discussed, you'd not run into these problems or at least have a decent workaround if you searched and read more .
