All I want in the world is to have the pads on my MPC in their original, sequential, 35-98 order. Instead my pads are preset to some random order established by the machine's previous owner...I've messed around with the MASTER, PROGRAM settings within the program screen and I've Initialized the unit in the 'other' screen, but none of this works. Anybody know how to do this...?

35-98 order is not original. You are seeing the MPC default layout. This has been posted many times along with the history of this layout. Searching may turn up something.
Also, try reading the manual. Changing it is mentioned there.
